Job Summary


Compassionate patient and family centered care through the collaborative multidisciplinary approach. Assesses, implements, evaluates, and oversees the plan of care for Pre/Post General Pediatric, Plastic, Orthopedic Surgeries, Chronic Ventilator, Trauma, ENT, Urology & Med/Surg. patients. Supports and upholds quality standards of a Magnet designated hospital and Patient Bill of Rights and practices under the supervision of the Nursing Manager/Director.

Minimum Job Requirements




  • CPR: Healthcare Provider.



  • RN licensure within the State of Florida.



  • PALS certification completion within 2 years in this position.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Completes all nursing multi-system assessments to include: head to toe, vitals, dressing changes, suction, feeding, bathing and repositioning.

  • Reviews patient admission history, prepares and accurately completes the discharge planning process as per department and hospital policies and procedures.

  • Prepares patient for transfer and communicates patient’s condition, history, and progress to receiving Nurse.

  • Communicates the patient's progress including critical findings and changes in the patients' condition to the physician and/or disciplines involved in the care of the child

  • Plans, implements, and documents the plan of care in collaboration with other disciplines and services to assure safe and efficient care.

  • Assists medical team with special procedures such as lumbar punctures, biopsies, monitoring IV and surgical sites, specimen collection, and promptly responds to medical equipment.

  • Accurately prepares discharge planning as per department and hospital policies and procedures.

  • Follows physician’s orders and administers medications as directed. Adheres to the six rights of medication administration.

  • Provides patient information and effectively completes the hand off process at shift change and patient reassignments.

  • Collaborates and rounds with a multi-disciplinary team during daily care planning rounds as appropriate;
    Fosters a Family Centered Care environment.

  • Accesses the electronic health record independently according to hospital policy and completes accurate and timely documentation.

  • Communicates with patients and families to review the plan of care; solicits input and communicates any patient and family concerns to the physician.

  • Educates patients and families about disease processes and post treatment home care (disease, medication, treatments, pain, discharge, safety, skin care, etc.).

  • Promotes an "error free" working environment by consistently providing high-quality, safe care as per hospital policies, conducts prevention rounding and follows up on identified concerns promptly.


  • Assesses all body systems, ensures safe, effective, efficient care delivery with emphasis on the absence of medication errors, avoidance of falls, ouch-free procedural pain & reduction of pain.



Knowledge/Skills/Abilities




  • Strong problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills.



  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and strong time management skills.



  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.



  • Computer literate.



  • Career Development: National certified preferably within 5 years of hire.



  • BSN Degree or currently enrolled in BSN program.



  • Trauma certification is preferred.



  • Nursing experience in a Pediatric healthcare setting and/or experience in an Operating Room or Surgical Services inpatient nursing unit are preferred.



  • Works effectively in a collaborative environment.



  • Ability to apply principles of evidenced-based practice, analytical thinking and service excellence in practice.



  • Analyze and interpret data and utilize the information to make judgments regarding patient care.



  • Ability to be on-call.



  • Ability to float to other units within level of competency.
