Director of Operations, Wrestling at University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma

Job Description:

The University of Oklahoma Athletics Department is seeking out a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to step into the role of Wrestling Director of Operations. This position will play an instrumental role in the operations of the wrestling program, ensuring smooth organization and coordination in both the day-to-day and long-term operations of the wrestling program. The Director of Wrestling Operations functions to advance the mission and values of the Wrestling Team by providing our student-athletes with the resources necessary to compete for championships, excel in the classroom, and to prepare for successful lives after graduation.


Primary Roles & Responsibilities:



  • Assist Head Coach with coordination, guidance, direction, and supervision of the Wrestling Program

  • Provide office administration/management and professional administrative support

  • Demonstrate proficiency with program systems such as ACS, ARMS, Teamworks and Concur

  • Assist with developing and maintaining the team budget; Monitor the purchase of uniforms, equipment and supplies throughout the year

  • Supervise team and staff expenses such as travel, meals, and recruiting

  • Oversee record maintenance; exercise approval authority for payment of invoices, interdepartmental transfers, payroll, and other similar instruments, which obligate departmental funds; conducting purchasing activities

  • Coordinate program’s future match schedule; Ensure administrative approval of match contract as well as opponent’s administrative approval

  • Help with coordinating travel and assisting with equipment maintenance

  • Arrange team travel, hotels, and meals while on the road 

  • Plan official visit travel, meals, and itinerary as well as communicate with the Compliance office of these events, including administration/oversight of necessary paperwork

  • Draft and distribute informational newsletters and emails to alumni and fans

  • Oversight of ticketing, marketing, and the fan experience with a goal of building the fan base

  • Organize social functions and fundraisers for the program

  • Manage the Takedown Club

  • Develop and administer office/departmental policies and procedures; Serve as a liaison with offices on and off campus

  • Oversee security, maintenance, and space allocation with department’s physical environment

  • Research, collect, and analyze data or information and prepare reports or responses to inquiries and some supervision of clerical and/or graduate assistant staff


In addition to the athletics compliance responsibilities that you have as an institutional staff member, you also have the additional athletics compliance responsibilities as set forth below



  • Ensure sport personnel are aware of all scheduled compliance meetings

  • Ensure prospective student-athlete information is entered into ACS (compliance database)

  • Assist in the growth of student-athletes promoting an environment of respect, discipline, and accountability

  • Monitor local/national trends and data affecting student-athlete conduct

  • Work closely with at-risk student-athletes, assisting in the development and communication of policies and procedures related to student-athlete conduct

  • Assist other university and department employees and units in interaction with law enforcement agencies (when necessary)

  • Assist in monitoring and/or maintaining social network pages of wrestling staff members to ensure athletics compliance

  • Assist in monitoring social network pages of student-athletes and prospective student-athletes to ensure University/team code of conduct and athletics compliance

  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of and compliance with applicable NCAA, Conference, University and Departmental rules and regulations

  • Recognize and acknowledge the importance of the maintenance and observance of the principles of institutional control over every aspect of the

  • athletics program.

  • In accordance with NCAA Bylaw 11.1.2.1, promote an atmosphere for compliance within the sport program and monitor the activities regarding compliance of all staff members involved with the program who report directly or indirectly to the Director of Operations

  • Supervise and take appropriate steps to ensure that all employees for whom the Director of Operations is administratively responsible, and the members of the Team know, recognize, and comply with all University and NCAA rules

  • Immediately report to the Department of Athletics Compliance in writing if any person or entity, including without limitation, representatives of the University of Oklahoma’s athletic interests, has violated or is likely to violate or may have potentially violated any federal, state, and local laws, University rules and NCAA rules

  • Always cooperate fully with the Department of Athletics Compliance

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree, AND 



  • 12 months of collegiate experience in assigned sport or closely related experience.


Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months in lieu of the Bachelor's Degree.

  • Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and other key stakeholders

  • Able and willing to work effectively with key stakeholders

Advertised Physical Requirements:



  • Must be able to climb, crouch, reach, stand, engage in repetitive motions, speak, including expressing oneself or exchanging information with others; see, including color, depth perception and clarity, and hear including receiving detailed information orally


Departmental Preferences:



  • Master’s Degree preferred

  • 24 months' experience in collegiate athletics department

  • Working knowledge of university, NCAA, and conference rules and regulations

  • Demonstrated success in operating autonomously while adhering to vision and mission of the organization


Supervision: Student equipment worker oversight
