The Impact You'll Make in this Role

As a Research Scientist you will help with the development, synthesis, and characterization of pressure sensitive adhesives for medical applications. Responsible for the development of the materials from lab to manufacturing ensuring material consistency. Work with cross functional team members to implement the adhesives into new products.


  • You will be performing and guiding approved self-initiated or assigned programs of major importance to the assigned organization leading to and/or supporting innovative applications and extensions of new and existing technologies, products and/or businesses.

  • You will also be performing lab-scale polymerization reactions, characterizing adhesives and resulting products, reaction and process development optimization, and communicating both internally (cross-functional teams) and externally (with outside suppliers).

  • Leading qualification and scaling up of different adhesives.

  • Correlate material properties and product performance.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:


  • M.S. in engineering or science discipline.

  • At least 5 years working in a research laboratory setting.

  • Experience with either new product qualifications or maintenance of existing products.

  • Experienced in different types of acrylate polymerizations including water, solvent, and hot-melt.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:


  • Experienced scaling materials from lab to manufacturing.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the manufacturing processes used to make water, solvent, and hot-melt polymers.

  • Experienced with formulating PSA's using different additives including tackifiers, antioxidants, oligomers, surfactants, emulsifiers, etc.

Applicable to US Applicants Only:The expected compensation range for this position is $115,607 - $141,298, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
