Job Description:

The Coordinator, Environmental Health and Safety is responsible for assisting and providing a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and staff through management of safety and emergency plans. Ensures Safety and Emergency Management Plans are in accordance with state, federal and accrediting bodies. Coordinates individual and committee efforts and informs Leadership and Governing Body of important safety/emergency management issues. Assist the Emergency Manager and coordinate with the with local, county and state planning activities to include preparedness, mitigation and education. Assist with drills and exercises regarding Safety and Emergency Management. Conducts employee education on related programs and evaluation of all Safety/Emergency Management programs. Identifying safety hazards in patient and non-patient care environments, maintains and record findings, and reports findings to the appropriate parties.Foothill Regional Medical Center is a fully accredited acute care hospital, licensed for 177 beds-120 beds for general acute care, 15 intensive care beds and 42 pediatric sub-acute beds. Our pediatric sub-acute unit, just one of six in California, serves patients from throughout the state. We care for patients up to 21 years of age who need long-term sub-acute care including ventilator care and nutritional support.Required Qualifications:


  • Two (2) years previous Healthcare Safety and Emergency Management experience

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English

  • Valid driver's license

  • Ability to use sound reasoning and judgment to resolve issues

  • Ability to build strong relationships at all levels of the organization

  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload

  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize needs to meet timelines

  • Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree

  • Bilingual skills

  • Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP)

  • Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional (CHEP)


Pay Rate: Min - $22.20 | Max - $30.50

  • Coordinate and assist in the Safety and Emergency Operations Plans and the procurement, maintenance, proper storage, and training for staff on emergency response equipment. Organizes and directs safety functions and activities in consultation with applicable leadership. Ensures a safe working environment. Communicates safety issues to appropriate authorities in a timely manner.

  • Assists and maintains hazard communication program, including Safety and SDS records. Coordinates all hazardous material training and education, including annual training, and minor/major spill response. Ensures all SDS and other hazardous waste documentation information is updated annually. Works with staff and administration on safety, hazardous materials handling and emergency management mitigation and action planning.

  • Maintain and/or updates policies and procedures for department, unit and organizational operation, as assigned, to ensure consistency, a safe working environment, and compliance with local, state, federal and accrediting body standards.

  • Ensures compliance with hospital policies and procedures, objectives, safety, environmental and safety codes and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies. Maintains current knowledge of regulatory issues and practices related to area of expertise and assist in change when needed to ensure compliance and process improvement.

  • Participates in required regulatory safety surveillance inspections and ensure deficiencies are corrected. Document corrective action on all hazards and unsafe conditions discovered during EOC Surveillance Rounds.

  • Responds to the Emergency Operations Plan when activated to provide subject matter expertise and incident response. Serves as a resource to Incident Commander, Hospital Control, and coordinates emergency operations planning.

  • Assist the Chairs Environment of Care (EOC) and Emergency Management Committee Meetings Ensures that all required minutes and reports are prepared for EOC.

  • Coordinate with leadership on disaster preparedness, response and recovery. Assist and documents training/drills for emergency response within the hospital in accordance with the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS).
