Arcadis is seeking a Staff Traffic Engineer to join the growing Traffic / Planning team in Austin, TX.

Role description:

As a Staff Traffic Engineer, you will lead the engineering efforts in the Traffic department and coordinate with both internal and external clients, developing scope and cost estimates, developing, and maintaining project schedules.

Role accountabilities:


  • Conduct capacity analyses of intersections, corridors, and transportation systems of various sizes. This involves evaluating the ability of these transportation systems to handle current and projected traffic volumes.
  • Perform safety analysis of transportation systems, including intersections, roundabouts, roadway segments, and interchanges. This involves identifying potential safety issues and recommending improvements to enhance the safety of these systems.
  • Conduct traffic engineering studies to support intersection and roadway improvements. This includes analyzing traffic patterns, evaluating different design options, and recommending solutions to optimize traffic flow and safety.
  • Utilize your expertise in signing and marking as well as traffic signal design. This includes developing effective signage and pavement markings to guide drivers and designing efficient traffic signal systems.
  • Facilitate traffic data collection and management. This involves coordinating data collection efforts, analyzing the collected data, and using it to inform traffic engineering decisions.
  • Conduct intersection capacity analyses to assess the performance and efficiency of intersections. Additionally, perform traffic impact studies to evaluate the effects of new developments or infrastructure projects on traffic patterns.
  • Apply safety engineering principles and use tools such as the Highway Safety Manual (HSM) and FHWA tools to assess intersection improvement projects. Familiarity with Crash Modification Factors (CMFs) will be important for this task.
  • Be familiar with alternative intersection and interchange design solutions. Additionally, possess the knowledge and skills to evaluate and communicate the results of these designs to both technical and general audiences.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications


  • 4+ years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field
  • EIT with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) License within 1 year after start date.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience on DOT projects (planning studies, traffic engineering studies, schematic development) / MPO / County planning projects.
