Product Handler

This is a part-time, overnight position; shifts start no earlier than 18:00 (6:00PM) and end no later than 04:00 (4:00AM).

The Tallahassee Democrat is seeking a part-time Product Handler at its Distribution Center. This is an overnight position, from 18:00 (6:00PM) to 04:00 (4:00AM). The typical working schedule will consist of 4 78 hour shifts per week, with only occasional operational needs requiring additional availability. The Distribution Center operates all days excepting Friday night into Saturday morning, including most holidays.

The Product Handler provides general support for Circulation and Distribution operations by fulfilling responsibilities and performing tasks concerning distribution of home delivery, single copy, and non-daily print products. The Product Handlers duties include but are not limited to: preparing paper work, oversight of the Distribution Center area, distribution of products to independent contractors, loading and unloading carts and trucks, and general up-keep of the Dock area and parking lot. The individual will conduct themselves in accordance with company policies and procedures, ensure quality customer service, maintain a safe work environment, and use sound judgment and discretion at all times.

Ability Requirements: Standing up to an hour at a time, bending, reaching, lifting and carrying no more than 40lbs for no more than 100ft, repetitive motion, and work in outdoor weather conditions. The individual must possess basic arithmetic skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, order of operations, and parentheticals, as well as proficiency with a basic calculator. The Product Handler will be expected to learn how to safely and effectively operate manual and electric pallet jacks, and may also be offered forklift operator training.
