Senior Program Manager, Medical Science - Structural Heart & Aortic (hybrid)

The Structural Heart and Aortic (SH&A) integrated operating unit offers minimally-invasive approaches to restore proper structure and function of the heart and the aorta. We focus on the transcatheter replacement or repair of the four heart valves-aortic, pulmonic, mitral, tricuspid-and the placement of stent grafts to treat aneurysms and dissections of the body's largest artery, the aorta.

This position is responsible for the management and leadership of the Medical Science Programs within the SH&A Medical Science group in the Clinical Research & Medical Science organization.

A Day In The Life

Comprehensive Medical Science Therapy and Communication Plan and Execution


  • Develop Medical Science Therapy-specific Strategic plan to reflect strategic alignment across Medical Science, Clinical Research, Global Marketing, and Regional Marketing specific therapy area/product line.
  • Incorporate strategic milestones specific to clinician needs, evidence development, and business alignment.
  • Inform broader SH&A organization and appropriate stakeholders to progress on key tasks and current issues.
  • Ensure alignment with and communicate progress on plans to cross-functional and global business partners on regularly scheduled basis.
  • Disseminate information about significant developments in the assigned therapeutic area to internal customers, providing analysis and interpretation regarding how the development may affect the interests of the business
  • Present and represent Medical Science team and perspective to stakeholders, partners, and on key initiatives

KOL Interactions and Engagements:

  • Develop and maintain a network of leading medical physicians (Key Opinion Leaders; KOLs).
  • Establish long-term medical-scientific / strategic relationships with key thought leaders and with related medical associations.
  • Engage with thought leaders in scientific forums in relevant professional areas (i.e. society meetings, conferences, symposia, study groups, advisory boards, etc).
  • Conduct advisory boards and steering committees.
  • Maintain company relationships with KOLs, academic centers, scientific societies, policy makers, and other organizations responsible for practice guideline recommendations.
  • Communicate relevant information from key thought leaders to internal stakeholders and business

Technical Knowledge

  • Stays up to date on medical and scientific developments in the assigned therapeutic area by reviewing current literature, monitoring competitor activities, and networking with experts
  • Attends key scientific conventions to obtain the most up to date medical scientific data (including competitive information)

People Leadership

  • Develops, connects, and motivates individuals and teams by encouraging effective teamwork and collaboration with other functional groups
  • Ensure all regulatory and compliance internal and external guidelines relevant to the position are followed

Must Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 7 years of medical science & education or clinical research experience with
  • Or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of medical science & education or clinical research experience

Nice to Have

  • Medical / scientific background and doctoral degree (MD, PharmD, or PhD) preferred
  • 8+ year of experience in the Pharmaceutical or Medical Device industry preferred
  • 5+ years of managerial / leadership experience,
  • Personnel management and program management and leadership experience preferred
  • Proven understanding of the medical device or pharmaceutical arena and healthcare system requirements
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, compliance standards, and ethical obligations.
  • Proven ability to establish working relationships with all levels of clinical / technical / marketing people in corporate, clinical, and academic settings
  • Experience providing medical and scientific training to internal stakeholders
  • Ability to work self-directed, independently
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse cultures
  • Experience developing targeted Key Opinion Leader (KOL) networks
  • Demonstrated ability to design and direct scientific or business advisory boards
  • Analytical skills and capability to understand, interpret, and communicate complex scientific information
  • Insight to determine sales and customer communication / education needs during product life cycle
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
