Research Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology at University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Job Description:

The Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant Professor full-time, appointment stream position.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD, MD/PhD, or MD degree and have research interests relevant to head and neck, otology, neurotology, bioengineering, neuroscience, and/or auditory disorders. The focus of this position will be data management for the Pittsburgh Hearing Research Center and Department of Otolaryngology. Strong consideration will be given to candidates whose research interests are relevant to understanding the role, with a working understanding of data governance, cloud infrastructure, and data pipelines. Experience with data structures, large data sets, programming languages (eg. Python, R, SQL, MATLAB), and version tracking (Git) is strongly preferred. Candidates with experience working with multi-modal data in the biological sciences domain, and end-to-end experience with data science projects that leverage data mining, statistics, predictive modeling, generative AI, and/or machine learning algorithms will also be highly considered.

Position oversees large, complex data sets and utilizes advanced programming and analytics for raw data extraction and aggregation into an accessible data repository. The incumbent will leverage statistical analysis, document processing, AI, and machine learning to support basic science and clinical research insights. This position is responsible for maintaining data infrastructure and tracking data assets for the Pittsburgh Hearing Research Center and Department of Otolaryngology.

Job Duties-

• Leads data management core in center grants.

• Coordinates research activities across multiple groups. Facilitates research collaborations through data sharing and canonicalization.

• Leverages data science methods and domain understanding to identify and extract clinically relevant research insights within and across complex data sets.

• Develops, implements, maintains, and manages data infrastructure of multi-

modal biological datasets.

• Establishes research databases and creates data pipelines (collection, update, and export) for new and existing databases. Manages dataset exports to national repositories.

• Provides data management support for researchers and other staff as needed.

• Oversees data entry, management, and dissemination procedures. Performs administrative management duties for research projects and oversees the research administration operations of study protocols and methods development as directed.

Preferred Qualifications-

• Proficiency in data structures, large data sets, programming languages (eg. Python, R, SQL, MATLAB), and version tracking (Git)

• Experience working with multi-modal data in the biological sciences domain
