3M is seeking Mechanical Specialist candidates to join our team in Columbia, MO!


  • Starting Pay: $24.95 + Shift Differentials

  • Shift: Full-Time, Overnights (12-Hour Rotating Shifts 7:30pm - 7:30am, every other weekend)

  • This position is an entry level craft position and will be supporting the Barrier Film Department

The Impact You'll Make in this Role

As a Mechanical Specialist, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:


  • Performing work as directed by Plant Engineering Supervisor (or designee).

  • Performing basic preventative maintenance (PM's) duties and following safety guidelines.

  • Identify improvement opportunities and initiate implementation.

  • Assuring process documentation is current and utilized at all times.

  • Conducting basic troubleshooting of chemical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.

  • Assisting with calibrations of process equipment and monitoring/analyzing a variety of day-to-day production issues.

  • Managing all hazardous wastes in compliance with RCRA requirements. This includes labeling all hazardous material & ensuring proper materials are in each drum or other container.

  • Performing operator duties as required.

  • Participating in continuous training.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:


  • Five years of work experience maintaining industrial/mechanical equipment OR an associate degree in a mechanical field coupled with experience to equal five years.

  • Ability to work a Full-Time, Overnight shift (12-Hour Rotating Shifts 7:30pm - 7:30am, every other weekend)

  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Experience or background in servicing electronically controlled equipment

The starting rate of pay for this position is $24.95/hour, with the potential to reach $27.52/hour. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
