The mission of the Advertising Technology organization is to advance Walmart e-Commerce by driving higher value for our customers and vendor partners. Walmart is investing in building a world class advertising platform and the Ads team is responsible for defining, innovating, and building performance advertising products that drive product discovery, sales and profits.


The Data Scientist / Applied Machine Learning Scientist - Computational Advertising is a critical data science/applied machine learning role that uses cutting-edge machine learning, deep learning, big data mining and optimization techniques to solve the challenging problems from ads relevance, ranking to campaign optimization. You will have a chance to work with the world's best machine learning scientists, engineers and product managers to solve some of the most challenging problems from e-Commerce and advertising business.



About Team:

Our team creates reusable technologies to help with customer acquisition, onboarding, and empowering merchants, while ensuring a seamless experience for both of these stakeholders. We also optimize tariffs and assortment in accordance with Walmart's Everyday Low Cost philosophy. We not only create affordability, but we also deliver customized experiences for customers across all channels - in-store, mobile app, and websites.



What you'll do:

• Build advanced feature extraction algorithms that feed into various advertising applications, including audience targeting, relevance and ranking, and performance optimization.


• Build, deploy and monitor machine learning and statistical models to predict or estimate key signals that are used to optimize advertising product performance


• Work on ML Automation platforms to support end to end machine learning life cycle using (Mlflow/KubeFlow/MetaFlow)


• Build, maintain and monitor scalable data pipelines working with distributed computing frameworks (e.g., Hadoop/Spark) and job schedulers (Airflow/Azkaban) to support modeling and optimization products

What you'll bring:

• Experience with backend software development, system architecture, and object-oriented design.


• Experience with one of the following high-level programming languages in production code quality: Python or Java.


• Experience with big data distributed computing frameworks including Hadoop, MapReduce, and PySpark


• Experience with machine learning modeling and data analysis tools including Pandas, SQL, Numpy, Scikitlearn, TensorFlow, PyTorch.


• Experience developing and implementing machine learning models to solve real-world problems and fit algorithms to specific use cases.


• Experience with one of the following NoSQL databases: Hive or HBase.

The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00-$234,000.00


Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance incentives.


Additional compensation for certain positions may also include:


- Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location)


- Stock equity incentives




Minimum Qualifications...

Option 1- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 3 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 2- Master's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 1 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 3 - 5 years' experience in an analytics or related field.
