Position Title: Supervising Special Officer

Salary Range: $50,207 - $50,207

Position Summary:
The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an opening for a Supervising Special Officer in its Investigation Bureau. In this position, under supervision the Supervising Special Officer is responsible for providing physical security, safety, and maintenance of order in the office. This position is similar to that of a peace officer which requires you to pass a mandatory background check to carry a firearm and possess a valid New York State Peace Officer certification. Please note: all applicants for this position should be aware that if selected, they must take and pass the Special Officer civil service exams to remain employed in the Special Officer title.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Patrols designated areas of assigned locations. Maintain the safety, security, and control of the building at all times.
  • Screens employees and visitors. Prevent unauthorized access/trespassers into the building.
  • Provide routine information to visitors and directs them to proper locations throughout the DANY campus.
  • Control access to the building and verify identification.
  • Complete accurate reports by recording observations, information, and occurrences as required.
  • Alert management of anything suspicious and notify emergency services, if necessary.
  • Preserve the peace and safeguard life and property against fire, vandalism, theft etc.
  • Operates, and monitor security equipment. Reports equipment maintenance or repair needs.
  • Discourage and ejects loiterers and disorderly persons. When appropriate, arrests and issue summonses to law violators on premises.
  • In the temporary absence of the supervisor, perform the supervisor's duties.
  • Working on special projects and tasks as assigned.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours.


Qualifications:

  • Prior security, law enforcement or criminal justice experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills required.
  • Familiarity in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workflow.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple short-term projects.
  • Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy.
  • Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with staff in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must be able to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment, detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to multi-task.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff and other law enforcement agencies.


Educational Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Other Requirements:

  • Must possess a minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience.
  • Must possess a valid New York State Peace Officer certification, which must be maintained for the duration of employment.
  • Firearms qualification required.
  • Must pass a medical exam, drug test, psychological screening, and an intensive background check.
  • As per NY Public Officers Law 2, §3-B, U.S. citizenship required.


Commitment:
  • One (1) year commitment to the hiring bureau.

Residency Requirement:
  • Pursuant to New York State Public Officers Law, you must be a resident of the City of New York at the time of appointment. However, if you have two years of employment with the City of New York, you may be a resident of Nassau, Westchester, Suffolk, Orange, Rockland, or Putnam counties.

  • Current office employees: To be eligible for a transfer or promotion, staff must have already served at least 1 year in their current position and be in good standing. In addition, must meet the minimum qualifications of the position.
  • Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.
