Due to a promotion, Amerisure is currently recruiting for an Applications Architect to support our Farmington Hills office. This role will have a hybrid approach being onsite Tuesday and Wednesday. The ideal candidate will also possess the following skill set. 

Summary Statement

Accelerate the modernization and standardization of software development and delivery capabilities within Amerisure. Provide architectural guidance for the full software development lifecycle including software design, development, testing, and implementation as well as application rationalization and future development platform strategies.  

Essential Tasks/Major Duties

• Collaborate with business partners and IT leaders to continuously enhance the application development strategy.   


• Build and maintain the overall technology architecture taking into consideration existing IT architecture, technology portfolio, security posture and business strategy. 


• Develop, document, communicate, and enforce modern and secure architecture principles and technology standards.  


• Understand and resolve complex technical issues crossing our technology domains and participate as part of triage and outage activities. 


• Conduct research on emerging technologies in support of development efforts and recommend technologies that will support business strategies and outcomes. 


• Provide technical thought leadership and influence senior leadership on architectural vision, the case for change and the path forward with the ability to obtain agreement and funding. 


• Provide mentorship and architectural consulting expertise, direction, and assistance to the IT organization. 


• Work with and influence agile development teams through design, code, and solution reviews to ensure optimal design standards resulting in efficient, high quality, resilient and accurate solutions.  


• Champion the creation and adoption of software development best practices including agile software engineering, DevOps, and Test Automation principles. 


• Develop and maintain a technical architectural environment that makes best use of existing tools and capabilities, and positions Amerisure to easily evaluate and adopt new tools and techniques as future situations require. 


• Create design documents that establish an “architectural runway” and roadmap to get from current state to desired future state for technical capabilities.  

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field or comparable years of experience.  


• Ten years of experience designing technical solutions with four years of experience as an architect. 


• Demonstrated ability to architect and engineer complex cross domain technical solutions with strong capability, performance, stability, and capacity. 


• Insurance or financial services industry experience preferred. 


• Cloud Native application development experience or certifications preferred. 


• Demonstrated Subject Matter Expertise (SME) level experience and knowledge of multiple software development platforms, tools, and data/database structures, concepts, and practices. 


• Experience in one or more systems development life cycle methodologies, including those that support agile development and/or scaled agile development models. 


• Demonstrated successful ability to build positive partnerships and work collaboratively with cross-functional business and technical teams. 


• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.  


• Demonstrated successful ability to lead people and get results through others. 


• Experience with streaming ingestion and analytics platforms including Kafka and Spark. 


• Development experience with ETL/ELT, no/low code, and data visualization. 


• Strong knowledge of secure development practices and patterns including OWASP Top 10, securing APIs, Data-At-Rest, Data-In-Transit and thorough sanitizing logs and access files. 


• Ability to lead discussions, make presentations, and deliver technical results to a non-technical audience.
