Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

TranSystems’ Fort Worth, Texas office has an immediate opening for an entry level Bridge Engineer. This position includes structural design, rehabilitation, and inspection of bridges and tunnels along with the preparation of load ratings, construction documents, specifications, and estimates. In addition, duties may include construction inspection services. Day to day assignments and technical guidance will be provided by current staff.  Applicants must possess strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to travel for projects, the ability to work in the field conducting bridge inspections up to 25% of the time and must be able to work well in a team environment on multi-disciplinary projects.

General Duties & Responsibilities  Other duties may be assigned.


  • Assists others in analyzing information and data to perform routine design and bridge load rating tasks.

  • May be asked to participate in non-design engineering activities such as construction inspection and materials testing, surveying, CADD production, and field data collection.

  • Receives instructions from Project Manager or Senior Project Engineers as to the general results expected.

  • Research design options and document findings for Senior Project Engineer.

  • Maintains project database by writing computer programs; entering and backing up data.

  • Researches code requirements.

  • Prepares administrative reports required for project permits.

  • Keeps Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or additional services.

  • Operate personnel lift equipment, climb ladders, install traffic control devices and other work in support of inspection activities.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

  • Takes part as a member of field crew on structure inspection assignments.  Takes photos, measurements, and produce inspection sketches.

  • Ability to clearly describe field observations and convey information with sketches and technical writing.

Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:

 


  • Bachelor’s degree in civil and/or structural engineering with an emphasis in structures from an ABET-accredited university or college.

  • 0 to 5 years of experience in structural bridge engineering assignments

  • Individuals should be competent in reading plans and shop drawings, and evaluating contractor compliance with construction plans and specifications.

  • Familiarity with AASHTO, AREMA, AISC and ACI design codes.

  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering licensing exam required.

  • Team oriented engineer with strong communication skills.

  • Experience with Microsoft Suite.

  • No relocation assistance - Local candidates preferred.

  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

  • NBIS Routine or NSTM Bridge inspection experience.

  • National Highway Institute certification in Inspection of In-Service Bridges.

  • National Highway Institute certification in Inspection of NSTM Members.

  • TxDOT bridge inspection, design or rehabilitation experience.

  • The preferred candidate will have a structural engineering background, knowledge of Microstation, AutoCAD, CSI Bridge, AASHTOWare BrR, Midas, and TxDOT Bridge Design Software (Bridgelink, CAP18, BGS) and some experience with structural engineering design drawings, specifications and cost estimates.

  • Experience in LRFD & LRFR of Highway Bridges

  1. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and drive a car. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
