Job Description:

OVERVIEW:  


The part-time Security Specialist & First Response Officer works to ensure the security and protection of museum facility, campus, visitors, staff, volunteers and collections for The Children's Museum of Indianapolis, Inc. The Specialist enforces safety by patrolling the building, campus, and grounds, providing exceptional customer service, hazard/safety checks and parcel inspections, as well as, helping to ensure safe and effective crowd management within the museum building, throughout the campus, and parking areas. The incumbent provides first aid response, Control Room support, and assists with training other members of the department and museum staff.

REPORTS TO:  Director of Security Operations


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. Conducts assigned patrols of the building, campus, grounds and parking areas. Responsible for facility security opening duties prior to public hours and securing the building after closing. Conducts and reports on hazard and safety checks to protect against vandalism, misuse, damage, and theft of museum property and assets.

  2. Provides first response with first aid, to include CPR, in the treatment of injuries and illness to visitors, staff and volunteers. Supports outside agencies in planning for and during emergencies in provisions of security or medical assistance.

  3. Provides exceptional customer service to visitors, museum staff and volunteers. Enforces museum policies and procedures through strong presence and interpersonal communication skills, negotiation and conflict management and assists with reuniting lost children.

  4. Ensures safe delivery of cash and money transports within the campus by escorting authorized personnel. Provides traffic and parking assistance during high visitation.

  5. Provides leadership in emergency protocols for evacuation and relocation and assists visitors and staff in the event of an emergency. Participates in the Safety Warden program and ensures emergency response for all emergency situations and drills. .

  6. Remains cross-trained on Control Room operations. Scheduled as secondary Control Room Operator when needed. Monitors alarms and security cameras.

  7. Operates fire and life safety equipment to include, fire extinguishers, emergency defibrillators, and other first aid equipment.

  8. Provides basic vehicular assistance such as jump starts, lock outs and tire changes.

  9. Serves a backup for pooled staff coverage when needed.


REQUIREMENTS:



  1. Two (2) years of proven experience in security and first response. CPR/AED and Stop the Bleed certification or proof of attainment within 6 months of employment.

  2. EMR/EMT certification preferred.

  3. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

  4. Must be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of de-escalation and conflict resolution skills with the ability to effectively communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  5. Must be able to work weekends and available on holidays and evening shifts.

  6. Must be able to stand for long periods of time and work outside in all weather conditions.


*Special consideration given to those applicants who are multi-lingual.


ADA REQUIREMENTS:



  1. Must be able to perform extensive work in indoor and outdoor environments, to perceive space, to read documents and diagrams and to view computer monitor.

  2. Must be able to communicate through projecting voice and varying tone. Team and group dialog required for communication of plans and concepts.

  3. Must be able to sit, stand, squat, and kneel for long periods of time frequently. Must be able to negotiate pedestrian travel throughout the museum physical plant and campus.

  4. Must be able to lift objects up to 45 pounds of weight, tolerate dust in the indoor environment and extreme temperatures, and humidity in the outdoor environment.
