Underwriter/Sr. Underwriter, Excess Casualty at Allied World in Los Angeles, California

Job Description:

Job Summary:   

Underwrite a portfolio of Excess Casualty business. Employ the methods necessary to meet projected profitability, GWP, expense goals, and proper underwriting guidelines.  In partnership with underwriters in the department, market business to potential clients and service existing clients.   

Duties and Responsibilities:

·        Analyze risks under the auspices of the department’s strategy and business objectives, reviewing exposures, losses and related conditions in order to seek to develop a proposal that adequately meets the needs of the target customers while adequately protecting the companies’ assets.  Appropriate use of the underwriting tools and company record keeping essential

·        Maintain files in an orderly manner consistent with company guidelines

·        Work with other Underwriters and the Legal department for manuscript wording analysis and preparation

·        Accept, decline or modify new and renewal business submitted by brokers, on behalf of the company.  Perform account analysis according to Allied World (US) DBA/FGL Casualty guidelines

·        Develop and build relationships with producers.  Attend Client meetings, lunches, dinners, and other social outings as applicable

·        Attend educational seminars and liaise with contract officers

·        4 year college graduate

·        1-5 years of Underwriting experience

·        Excellent Communication skills for both internal and external clients

·        Proficient in Microsoft applications including word, outlook, and excel

·        Excellent organizational skills, and ability to multi task required

·        Ability to effectively assess risk

·        Ability to function in a team environment

Compensation:

The annualized base pay range is a broad range based on analysis of similar positions in the market.  The actual base pay for the position may be above or below the listed range and determined by a number of considerations, including but not limited to complexity, location, and scope of the role, along with experience, skills, education, training, and other conditions of employment.  Base salary represents one component of Allied World’s comprehensive total reward package, which may also include annual incentive compensation rewards.

Salary range: $85,000 - $125,000
