Responsibilities

2nd Shift - 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM - Monday through Friday

Starting Pay Rate: $23.95/hr + $1.00 Shift Differential

MSA Safety in Cranberry Township, PA is hiring for a Production Technician for Final Assembly/Gas Mixing. Primarily responsible for reading and understanding documents to blend refrigerant gases from high-pressure compressed gas cylinders, to small transportable gas cylinder for use in refrigerant monitor calibration. This position will be responsible for operating a gas mixing system, verifying cylinder concentration mix accuracy through a predefined test system, and loading / unloading small gas cylinders between the filling rack / cabinet and calibration test system.

When gas mixing is not required, this position would be responsible to assemble, modify, test, apply calibration gas, pack and repair moderately complex instruments, where considerable on-the-job training and/or an appropriate associate’s degree is required. This position is also responsible for soldering circuit boards, crimping wire terminals, and troubleshooting to the component level, and for customizing products according to customer specifications. Adherence to safety, housekeeping and quality standards as they relate to production and the company’s objective is required. In addition, this position is responsible for maintaining production goals through productivity targets and cost containment by eliminating waste.

Responsibilities and Duties including estimated percent of time for each:

80 % - Blend refrigerant gases from high-pressure compressed gas cylinders, to small transportable gas cylinder for use in refrigerant monitor calibration. This position will be responsible for operating a gas mixing system, verifying cylinder concentration mix accuracy through a predefined test system, and loading / unloading small gas cylinders between the filling rack / cabinet and calibration test system.

10% - Assembles, applies calibration gas, and tests, including set-up, of moderately complex instruments and/or sub-assemblies requiring wiring and soldering. May be required to improvise methods and equipment setups using basic electronics knowledge.

5% - Visually inspects and performs minor repairs.

5% - Completes and maintains relevant paperwork and inputs information in computer system.

Note: This position performs the duties listed based on department schedule and workload. Amount of time spent on specific tasks may vary from day to day.



Qualifications

Experience Required:

  • Minimum 12 months electronics manufacturing or other related experience required.
  • Requires considerable on-the-job training and/or vocational training.
  • Past soldering experience preferred.
  • Past experience building gas detection instruments preferred.
  • Length of time required to become proficient on the job, producing work of acceptable quality and quantity is from 3- 6 months.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Associates Degree in electronics or electronic technology preferred.
  • In lieu of degree, 1 years past working experience in the permanent instrument assembly preferred.

Special Skills, Training or Abilities:

Must be able to:

  • Read and understand drawings, work instructions and test procedures.
  • Use a variety of test equipment.
  • Read wiring diagrams.
  • Understand standard units of measure.
  • Set-up and interpret results of various measuring devices, including oscilloscopes and volt meters.
  • Perform standard software operations including SAP.
  • Sometimes lift, carry, push and pull up to 30 pounds without assistance.
  • Use power and hand tools, and ability to use custom tooling.
  • Regularly perform fine finger and hand activity / steady hand required.
  • Effectively communicate with various levels within the organization including training of new associates and temporaries.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Prioritize and organize work.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in soldering.

Working Conditions:

Must be able to and work:

  • In a production plant environment with limited exposure to elements such as dust, noise, or temperature changes.
  • With moderate exposure to mechanical, electrical, fire, or other hazards.
  • With moderate exposure to small amount of various chemicals such as isopropyl alcohol and methopropranpynal alcohol.
  • With regular exposure to compressed toxic gasses during calibration.

Required Safety Equipment:

  • Safety glasses and steel toes shoes.
  • Other PPE may be required per Job Safety Analysis.
