Timeframe: 52 Weeks

Shift: Monday-Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Regular Days Off: Saturday and Sunday

Supervision Received:Receives direct supervision from the Associate Vice President of Strategic Financial and Institutional Planning.

Supervision Exercised: N/A

Salary: $61,000.00 to $65,000.00 (Salary commensurate with education and experience)

General Statement of Duties:The Budget Analyst prepares analysis and reviews quantitative data in support of the budgeting and financial planning needs of the University. Duties include integrating financial schedules and analysis into planning models, preparing budget reports, maintaining planning models, budget transfers, and creating other financial analysis as needed. The Budget Analyst is responsible for providing a high level of service, training and support to campus constituents and support campus planning processes. The Budget Analyst will support a variety of financial projects as necessary in support of critical initiatives taken on by the Office of Strategic Financial and Institutional Planning.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties include but not limited to:

Essential:

  • Support the development of the annual budget with regards to documentation, analysis, reporting and responding to ad-hoc requests.
  • Validate data submitted on budget templates, consolidated campus budget template submissions, and other financial submissions.
  • Develop PowerPoint presentations and create financial presentations as requested.
  • Validate funding requests by providing data and analysis to support recommendations.
  • Oversee the accuracy of budget transfers and other budget transactions as prepared by the Budget Analyst.
  • Oversee the budget development module in Banner and ensure proper set-up of future fiscal year base budget.
  • Provide analysis in support of multi-year financial projections.
  • Perform budget reconciliations as needed, and create supporting analysis for funding allocation decisions.
  • Support budget recommendations with data and evidence-based analysis.
  • Maintain Position Control Database, including performing finance calculations.
  • Support projects and other budget and planning tasks as needed.
  • Support financial literacy and knowledge sharing.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with a foundational background in accounting, economics, statistics or finance.
  • Ability to prepare and comprehend financial documents and related information.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and solution oriented.
  • Strong MS Excel experience, including Pivot Tables and advanced formulas.
  • Ability to communicate financial data and concepts in a way that is clear.
  • Self-starter and team player.
  • Detail oriented.
  • High level of emotional intelligence and service oriented mindset.
  • Ability to support multiple projects at one time and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to quickly learn new systems.

Salary:

Salaries for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining agreements as well as state policies.
