BUSINESS UNIT: TERMINALS
Kinder Morgan is the largest independent terminal operator in North America, providing a strong, reliable network of 144 terminals serving our customers' storage, distribution, blending and logistical needs. Our terminals store and handle renewable fuels, petroleum products, chemicals, vegetable oils and other products. We have a combined liquids storage capacity of approximately 151 million barrels and handle about 59 million tons of dry bulk materials annually.
Primary Purpose: Provides support by tracking and delivering project control and financial reporting activities necessary for a broad range of facilities across all regions. This position supervises a team of Project Control Specialists and works closely with a cross-functional team including but not limited to Project Management (PM), Finance, and Accounting to ensure that all objectives, deliverables, and targets are met.
Essential duties and responsibilities:


  • Responsible for leadership and development of TSG Project Controls team.

  • TSG Opex budget build-up, and monthly accrual-based forecasting; including headcount, KM and Contract labor, and associated non-labor.

  • Provide and ensure accurate tracking and reporting of TSG capital project financials, which may include updating Project Cost Reports, misc. heavy data analysis, PO/invoice review, and account reconciliation to ensure system and approved capital budget alignment.

  • Lead monthly Cost Review meetings.

  • Demonstrate ability to analyze financial information and recognize significant variance, trends, and irregularities. Understand the causes/driver and recommend solutions to cost impact or delays.

  • Oversight of KM and Contract employees labor cost allocation/capitalization.

  • Ensure timely AFE, PRN, In-Service Request and Project Completion report generation and submission by working closely with Capital Control to develop and execute capital project write-ups, estimates, and proper documentation.

  • Maintain Gulf Area Tank Plan and facilitates quarterly reviews and reporting to area Commercial, Finance, Operations, & Engineering teams.

  • Collect data, inputs, update and produce standard management reports, ie. Actual vs. Budget and /or Forecast.

  • Research unexpected items and resolve inaccuracies.

  • Misc. corporate reporting across all Terminal Areas.

  • Ensure ongoing improvement through evaluation, maintenance, and development of current processes.

  • Work with a cross-functional team with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.

  • Attention to detail, accuracy, completeness and meeting deadlines and commitments.

  • Excellent time management and organization skills and ability to manage competing priorities.

  • Effective written, listening, and verbal communication skills and strong presentation skills.

  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and high level of performance.

  • Provides overall support to TSG and performs and directs ad-hoc tasks and any other duties as necessary.

Position Requirements

Minimum requirements
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is preferred.
Equivalent and relative experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Experience / specific knowledge:


  • Must have general understanding of Project Controls, Accounting, and Financial principles such as tracking project Estimate to Complete and Estimate at Complete, as well as budgeting and accrual-based forecasting of general labor and non-labor operational expenses.

  • Must possess basic understanding of project work and be familiar with the oil and gas industry.

  • Must be able to understand needs of the business unit(s) for which development work is being performed.

  • Ability to identify and establish expectations in an employee/employer relationship (subordinate/manager).

  • Solid leadership, communication, motivation and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with individuals with varying disciplines, backgrounds, and experience levels.

  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), provide direction to direct reports, prioritize work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.

  • Willingness to work overtime, as needed.

Competencies, skills, and abilities:

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency level in Microsoft Excel (If, Lookups, Pivots, tracing functions through multiple tabs and files).

  • Additional Microsoft Office application proficiency, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and other Office Suite general products.

  • Strong attentiveness to detail, analytical skills, and logical thought processes for problem solving.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including but not limited to the ability to present ideas, proposals, and results to business segment leaders and to internal and external customers.

  • Strong organization and time management skills. Must be able to successfully prioritize daily work, manage multiple tasks, and work with minimal direct supervision.

Physical demands:
  • Employee must be physically capable of completing and satisfying all training requirements as stipulated by local, state, or federal agencies and/or Company Policy.
Working conditions:

  • Majority of the work will be conducted from an office environment.

  • Travel will be limited and on an exception basis.

Supervisory responsibility:
This role is responsible for a team of Project Controls Specialist.
This role is exposed to sensitive information and will require integrity and confidentiality.

Preferred education, experience, certifications, competencies, skills, and abilities:
Above the minimum requirements, not required but advantageous in this position:

  • Advanced excel skills (ie. complex and embedded functions, and ability to track formulas through multiple tabs or files)

  • Knowledge of Lawson Applications.
