We are seeking a Resiliency Planner to join our growing engineering and planning group in Boston, MA . The ideal candidate will thrive as a vital part of a resourceful and collaborative water/climate resilience team. Our climate resiliency team has been an industry leader over the past decade in vulnerability assessment and climate adaptation planning. This position will help lead, inspire, and support our growing climate resilience practice across multiple geographies. Our resilience planning practice is a highly integrated group of professionals performing policy analysis, technical assessment, planning, design and construction and community outreach and engagement . Related areas of technical focus for this position include but are not limited to: climate adaptation and resiliency , vulnerability and risk assessment, hazard mitigation , social vulnerability and equity, and community resilience planning and engagement .

Candidates must have strong technical expertise , particularly in urban/regional planning, environmental science, urban sustainability, climate adaptation and climate resiliency. The candidate will be fully capable of providing technical leadership and direction to project teams and mentoring of staff. Candidates must possess excellent organizational, communication and technical writing skills.

Desired Skills / Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Planning , Engineering, Environmental Science , Urban Planning, Urban Design or Policy; Master's Degree in relevant discipline is a plus


• AICP certifi cation (or ability to become AICP certified in near term ) preferred;


• Ability to work in a team environment with staff from different disciplines and technical backgrounds ;


• Experience with one or more of the following is a plus: hazard mitigation planning, FEMA NFIP C ommunity R ating S ystem, comprehensive planning, recovery planning, climate adaptation planning, resiliency planning, emergency operations planning, energy assurance planning, and business continuity planning ;


• Knowledge and past project and/or research experience involving environmental justice, equity, and/or social vulnerability analyses. In particular, experience working with key datasets (EPA’s EJSCREEN, CDC’s Social Vulnerability Index, FEMA, State-level EJ datasets, American Community Survey census tract and block group datasets) is strongly preferred ;

• Experience coordinating and leading community outreach and engagement activities ;


• Relevant technical programs: GIS, Microsoft Suite, InDesign, Adobe Illustrator ;


• Working knowledge of state climate adaptation and resiliency programs ( e.g., MA Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Program, MA Coastal Zone Management - Coastal Resiliency, Rhode Island Municipal Resilience Program , Resilient Connecticut ) or experience with relevant FEMA tools (e.g., Resilience Analysis and Planning Tool, National Risk Index) is a plus ;


• Past project or research experience with Affordable Housing projects, CDBG program , Historic/Cultural Resources or Community Preservation Act projects is a plus .
