DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International is actively seeking a Senior Technical Manager to join our Emergency Management and Response (EMR) office in Alexandria, VA to Lead our Modeling and Data Solutions Team. The successful candidate will lead and manage complex water resources projects, focusing on FEMA flood risk studies, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, design, and mapping. This senior role requires not only technical excellence but also strong project management, business development, and team leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage FEMA flood risk studies in FEMA Regions 1, 2, 3, and 5, ensuring quality, timeliness, and budget compliance.
• Serve as a subject matter expert and technical lead for FEMA flood risk studies, including coastal and riverine flood hazard analysis and mapping methodologies, LAMP modeling procedures, and 2D BLE studies using rain-on-grid approach.
• Mentor, coach, and develop a team of water resources engineers, scientists, and technical specialists, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration by promoting knowledge sharing across disciplines, encouraging creative problem-solving and the exploration of new technologies.
• Identify and pursue new business opportunities in water resources engineering, leveraging existing client relationships and developing new ones.
• Collaborate with other Michael Baker International offices and divisions for project execution and development of cutting-edge tools and products.
• Communicate technical concepts and findings effectively through various report formats and presentations.
• Guide professional development of the team by implementing personalized career growth plans for each team member and encouraging continuous learning and skill enhancement.
• Conduct annual performance evaluations and quarterly check-ins with team members to provide constructive feedback, identify strengths, recognize achievements, and address challenges and areas for improvement.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related field.
• Master's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
• Experience in staff management/development
• 20+ years of professional experience in water resources engineering, with a focus on FEMA flood risk studies and NFIP.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license and Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to various audiences.
• Demonstrated experience in project management, business development, and team leadership.
• Excellent organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects and prioritizing effectively.
• A track record of technical excellence, mentoring, and achieving independent success.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills

COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $132,324 to $206,676. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.
