SMP includes manufacturing plants in Collegeville, PA, Eighty Four, PA, Wallingford, CT, Lancaster, PA and Plymouth, UK. The SMP Business Unit employs approximately 600 employees.

The Business Unit Controller is an essential member of the leadership team to develop and implement the business's annual strategic plan. The Controller is responsible for managing the financial accounting, planning, forecasting and analysis including sales target revenue, inventory, working capital and profit margin. The role reports to the SMP Business Unit Manager.

Key Responsibilities


  • Lead Business Unit's financial reporting and assist in driving financial results in Business Unit.
  • Demonstrate a top-notch work ethic to ensure that the Business Unit's financials are accurate and that all reporting, budgeting and all other key deadlines are met
  • Oversee financial strategy and assist in helping drive overall business strategy.
  • Lead BU's financial strategy. Understand the business (including outside vendors and how costs are generated) in order to not only forecast accurately, but also to use financial data to help influence the business's strategic direction.
  • Handle all BU compliance issues.
  • Present financial strategy and updates to C-suite leaders at strategic planning sessions and regional operating reviews.
  • Establish controls and provide guidance on all public-company and government audit compliance related issues.
  • Demonstrate the assertiveness to stand up and provide direction on what can or cannot be done to ensure full compliance with all necessary rules and regulations.
  • Don't just raise problems, but also suggest solutions. Understand what BU is trying to accomplish and be creative in identifying new ways to get there.
  • Collaborate closely with both corporate and peers in the business drive full compliance in a way that is sustainable for the business and the team.

  • Be an effective team member across division to help drive business performance.
  • Serve as an experienced self-starter who will support BU Manager in driving his agenda for the business.
  • Work with the Finance team to quickly develop a facility with the systems, processes and reporting and independently build knowledge of the details of the business.
  • Partner effectively with the other members of Business Unit management to meet, or exceed, performance commitments.
  • Work proactively and collaboratively with operations, engineering, and sales re: how business actions affect the financials, and to identify ways to changes those actions to drive financial performance:
  • Proactively identify and communicate both good and bad news.
  • Be a problem solver /enabler for the business unit. Be able to "find a way", executing and implementing rapidly in seeking ways to make people's lives easier.
  • Grow and develop the finance teams, enabling strong succession plans.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required
  • Masters in Business Administration preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant (or other certifications) are a plus
  • 10+ years manufacturing or operational accounting experience, metals industry preferred
  • Willing to travel up to 40%
