Job Description:

Purpose

This position develops Quality Control procedures and documentation for inspection, testing and evaluation to ensure that all product lines meet military specifications and the Qualified Product Listing (QPL) requirements for the Navy.

Essential Functions

Planning/Organizing


  • Reviews and writes procedures for Manufacturing, Assembling and Testing all products and components to ensure they meet requirements of Military Specifications, drawings and Work Orders.
  • Acts as liaison to customers and Government QA representatives.
  • Manages the MRB and ensures proper dispositions are completed timely and appropriately.
  • Performance of root cause analysis of nonconforming materials internally and externally.
  • Verifies Certificates of Compliance after final inspection.
  • Checks against Purchase Order to confirm that everything has been completed.
  • Serves as back-up for In-process & Final Inspectors and Receiving Inspector.
  • Acts as Delegated Source Inspector for Navy contracts.
  • Initiates Engineering Action (ECN) forms to correct QC problems discovered during manufacturing or assembly In-Process inspections.
  • Conducts internal QC audits.
  • Reviews and interprets RFQ's and contracts for all QA related items.
  • Prepares for Source Inspection by reviewing all drawings and forms, including the DD250 (receiving report submitted to the Government for payment). Observes Government representative during inspection, which is mostly visual, with some dimensional checking.
  • Member of the Material Review Board.

Customer/Vendor Work Relationships


  • Customers: Provides QC support to assist in meeting regulatory, audit and other requirements via phone, email and on-site visitation.
  • Vendors: Ensures that all vendor supplied material and components meet QC requirements.
  • Sales: Provides technical support and review of Request for Quotations (RFQ's) and other customer documents.
  • Engineering: Interfaces with Engineers and Manufacturing Engineers on specific QC related issues.
  • Manufacturing: Interfaces with most departments including Test, Assembly, Machining, Winding, Press Room and Box Shop.
  • Materials & Sourcing: Interfaces with Buyer/Planners to insure that purchased items and raw materials meet QC requirements.

Continuous Improvement/Productivity


  • Represents the Quality Assurance Department on Continuous Improvement Task Teams.
  • Assists in the development of Quality Control procedures and methods to minimize their cost impact on design standards and manufacturing procedures while maintaining QC requirements.

Performs other duties as assigned by Manager Quality Assurance.

Accountability

Reports to Manager Quality Assurance. Ensures that all work is done in accordance with Customer specifications and Company Policy. Keeps Manager Quality Assurance aware of all progress and problems.

Physical Requirements

Job requires sitting at a desk doing normal office work, including phone communications and using a computer. Also involves standing and walking in an office and a manufacturing facility.

Environmental / Safety / Time Allocation


  • Spends approximately 50% of time working at a desk in a normal office environment.
  • Spends about 50% of time on work away from desk, including going out into shop and discussing manufacturing issues with QC inspectors and Manufacturing Department personnel. Must wear eye protection and any other required personal protective equipment while on the shop floor.

Training / Cross Training / Progression

Trains for Manager Quality Assurance position in accordance with the Supply Chain Department Training Program. Assists in the training of new QC engineers for this position to promote orderly progression.

Training

This position is required to attend mandatory eye exams. Requirements for this position are to also be engaged in: 5S, Continuous Improvement, On-Time Delivery, Routine Total Preventative Maintenance and the submission of Improvement Ideas.

Education / Experience

Associates Degree in QC or Engineering Technology - BSME preferred - with 2 to 4 years of

QC experience in an electro-mechanical manufacturing environment. ISO experience a plus.
