We're shifting into a new gear and the business is looking for an experienced Upstream Marketer to shape the next phase of our Extracorporeal Therapies journey.

Today, we have the broadest and most comprehensive portfolio of Cardiac Surgery products, across multiple therapies, to serve the evolving needs of our customers and patients. We want to build out these existing portfolios for the future while also building further differentiation in our commercialized products.

Your role will be to lead the Upstream Marketing activities for the Extracorporeal Therapies Portfolio to enable short-term and long-term sustainable growth. You will lead cross-functional stakeholders to drive therapy and portfolio strategies and determine the product development and portfolio investment/allocation decisions across the Extracorporeal Therapies Portfolio. This individual needs to be a strategic thinker, analytical, deliberate executer, close collaborator, and a committed team player, focused on patient and clinical unmet needs.

A Day in the Life:

As the upstream Principal Product Manager you'll spend some days designing market research to collect user input that will shape a future innovation. You may stand in an operating room doing observational research. Other days, you'll spend hours poring through heaps of market and financial data to create the perfect portfolio strategy. You may be debating the design and implementation details for the product in development with the engineering team; or be in multiple meetings throughout the day with sales and global marketing teams validating the commercial model you cooked up. And of course, you will get to practice your storytelling skills while presenting upcoming product strategy and details to KOL customers or internal executives.

The candidate will ideally be based in the twin cities area with the rest of the product marketing and business leadership team.

Specific responsibilities include the following :

Therapy Strategy & Core Team Support:

• Develops a deep clinical understanding of the disease state, with a focus on patient pathways and clinical unmet needs.

• Drives the inputs and assumptions into robust global market models through extensive cross-functional collaboration.

• Analyzes qualitative and quantitative data to develop a deep understanding of market and technology needs, trends, and disruptors, translating this analysis into business opportunities and actions.

• Collaborate with R&D and other cross-functional partners in leading projects through the product development lifecycle up to commercialization.

• Identifies market research needs and works with appropriate stakeholders to collect voice of customer feedback utilizing multiple methodologies.

• Works closely with physician customers to better understand needs and solicit concept feedback. Facilitates customer meetings and advisory board discussions.

• Leads the development and build-out of a holistic portfolio strategy:

o Determine / prioritize key unmet needs and opportunities.

o Define market opportunities.

o Identify immediate, midterm and long-term product and portfolio gaps and develop a pipeline of solutions to plug the gaps to ensure a regular cadence of innovation.

o Identify and pursue growth opportunities (geographical and indication expansions, product iterations, therapy enablement, and segment disruptors)

o Develop business cases, strategic rationales, and assess business model fit, and deliver executive-level presentations to Medtronic leadership and customers.

• Translate business goals and therapy strategies into the annual strategic plans to drive to financial commitments in alignment with Senior Leadership.

• Collaborate with Global Downstream Marketing colleagues to develop pre-launch marketing launch plans.

Competitive Intelligence:

• Understands and analyses the competitive landscape to drive insights as it relates to traditional and emerging global competitors.

• Stay current on key clinical literature and competitive activities and communicate important findings to downstream and functional partners.

• Keep current on new and competitive technology offerings in the marketplace.

Up to 15% travel

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

• You will need a Bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of experience in marketing, strategy, market development, and/or engineering.

• Experience supporting a core team driving VOC, VOB, and marketing plans for new product development.

• A substantive knowledge of the medical device industry, health care delivery, and the factors that drive them.

• Passion for synthesizing existing and new growth opportunities into a strategic framework to drive business objectives.

• Demonstrated verbal and written communication and interpersonal and presentation skills to communicate strategies and unify stakeholders, including Senior Leadership, to a common vision.

• Strong financial acumen, modeling, and analytical skills enabling business analysis, progress tracking and visibility, and data driven decisions.

• Ability to foster collaboration, influence others outside of your reporting structure, and work collaboratively across a matrix structure.

Nice to Have:

• MBA

• Product Launch experience

• Strong technical aptitude, specifically in Cardiac Surgery and/or the clinical environment

• Sales orientation or exposure to working with a high performing salesforce

The provided base salary range is used nationally in the United States (except in Puerto Rico and certain CA locations).The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience,certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
