Job Description:

As part of strategic plan, the University of Oklahoma (OU) continues growing and expanding the radar program. Two tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of assistant professor are available this time at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE, https://www.ou.edu/coe/ece), Gallogly College of Engineering (GCoE). We welcome applicants who have demonstrated experience and expertise in airborne and distributed radar systems and are motived and committed to be an integral part of research and educational mission at OU.

OU has developed an internationally known, interdisciplinary radar program with state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, advanced radar test beds, engineering support staff. The Advanced Radar Research Center (ARRC, http://arrc.ou.edu), which serves as the cornerstone of the radar program, has developed principal capabilities including the design & prototyping of radar systems, mobile radar platforms, multi-function radar, phased array technology, digital signal & array processing, and reconfigurable components and architectures. Since its inception, the ARRC has emerged as a world leader in ground-based weather radars and, over the last decade, has made incredible progress in leading major Department of Defense (DoD) research efforts, and, more recently, a burgeoning airborne radar program. Building on this foundation of excellence, OU seeks individuals in the area of airborne and distributed radar systems.

Airborne radar and other sensors require stringent considerations on size, weight, and power (SWaP) but provide tremendous opportunities in atmospheric science (e.g., tropical cyclones, cloud and precipitation microphysics, storm dynamics including the important vertical component, observations in remote regions not covered by current ground-based radars), defense (e.g., synthetic aperture radar imaging, change detection, moving target indication, distributed sensing, RF surveillance), and civilian aviation (e.g., autonomous vehicles and navigation, aviation safety and airspace management, airborne weather applications). The qualified candidate could complement the airborne/distributed radar research already established, enhance currently active collaborations with the School of Meteorology and School of Aviation in the College of Atmospheric & Geographic Sciences (CAGS), and strengthen collaborations between CAGS, computer science, and other GCoE Schools to facilitate and accelerate the proliferation of advanced engineering technologies to benefit numerous scientific and mission-driven studies using airborne/distributed radar.

The candidate's research specialty could include one or a combination of the following areas:

* Theoretical studies on data fusion of navigation sensors to support the development and application of airborne position, navigation, and timing (PNT) instruments;

* Theory, design, and development of distributed radar system architectures to support coherent cooperative sensor networks, distributed PNT, and target tracking; and

* Development of novel RF front-end component/module designs and multichannel array technologies to support integrated low-cost, size, weight, and power RF systems.
