Our Forensic practice investigates problems and provides evidence-based solutions founded on rigorous science and physics. We assist attorneys, property managers, building owners, contractors, manufacturers, and design professionals with a wide range of engineering and architectural issues.
The Role
We have an immediate opportunity for a Mechanical Engineering Associate with interests in forensic investigation, litigation support, and risk loss consulting for industrial installations. This individual will be expected to execute investigations of equipment, systems, and processes. The investigations include failure root cause analysis, construction defects, evaluation of system performance compared to requirements, risk loss insurance and claims response, and litigation support. The successful candidate will be required to provide direction to, and review the work product of, junior level staff, coordinate with other project managers on interdisciplinary efforts, support marketing efforts, and develop and maintain client relationships.
Responsibilities
Conduct and document field observations, joint inspections, and interviews
Perform research into equipment, processes, and events
Provide analysis of findings
Coordinate materials analysis and advanced modeling
Prepare intrusive and non-intrusive protocols for testing and evaluation of materials and components
Collaborate with multi-discipline team members and other experts
Lead scope of damage assessment and failure root cause investigations
Communicate complex technical matters in understandable terms
Communicate with clients (owners, attorneys, insurance representatives) to understand requirements and strategic approach
Complete technical and investigative reports to support forensic findings and opinions
Manage and mentor other design team members
Qualifications
Degree (Master's preferred) in Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering
8+ years of experience
Professional Engineer License required.
Proven success in root cause analysis and forensic investigations for equipment, systems, and processes
Experience in process engineering and/or plant engineering
Experience in building systems and utilities
Six Sigma Certification
Use of advance software analytical tools such as Finite Element Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics
Fire Investigations
Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
Domestic and international travel 10-25%
