Home to NASCAR's Championship Weekend, Phoenix Raceway has been the premier motorsports venue in the Southwest since 1964 and hosts two NASCAR race weekends each year. In March, the Ruoff Mortgage 500 NASCAR Weekend kicks off the race season at Phoenix Raceway, featuring the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and ARCA Menards Series. In November, champions will be crowned in the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and ARCA Menards Series West. Phoenix Raceway also hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including corporate meetings and conferences, charity events, holiday events, sport and endurance competitions, driving schools and Segway tours.
The Sr. Director, Track Operations will work closely with the President in planning, directing and managing the day-to-day operations including race track operations, emergency services, facilities maintenance, and security. Supervision is exercised over professional staff that directs various departments in day-to-day operations. The Sr. Director, Track Operations will ensure an effective and cost-efficient operating plan by controlling departmental operating budgets.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional event operations and sports experience, coupled with extraordinary management, supervisory and motivational skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Hire, direct and manage the work and performance of the operations, security, maintenance, emergency services, guest services and art departments
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, facility stakeholders and facility users including sanctioning bodies, race teams, and participants
Ensure all programs and procedures are in place to maintain security, safety and enjoyment of clients, guests and employees on a daily and event basis
Responsible for health, safety, and environmental compliance including OSHA, AQMD, DTSC, and other compliance/reporting requirements
Lead and oversee overall daily operation and maintenance of the facility and all systems
Develop and implements programs, policies, and procedures for the facility
Lead and oversee the advancing and communicating of event operations information to the appropriate departments and staff
Develop practical and realistic operational budget and approves and monitors expenses.
Manage facility's capital budget
Lead and oversee all construction, renovation, and equipment changes and/or purchases
Develop effective working relationships with local fire and police departments and other government agencies
Know and ensure all laws, codes, ordinances, policies, procedures, risk management, security and safety precautions, rules/regulations and emergency procedures are followed
Lead and oversee the Safety Committee including quarterly meetings, safety walk-throughs, training and all follow-up required
Develop and maintain relationships with vendors / suppliers / contractors, including administering and negotiating contracts
Drive and oversee the operation of event set-up and tear-down
Responsible for event staff; including hiring, training, & supervision
Responsible for management oversight for the cleanliness of the facilities, equipment, and mechanical areas
Ensure the daily cleanliness of spectator and public areas
Ensure that all safety, security, and equipment procedures are put into effect
Implement and update event rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
Continuously reviews operations needs and makes recommendations to Track President
Physical labor is required for events, including but not limited to heavy lifting, working around loud noises, walking extended distances, standing and possibly working in extreme weather conditions
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Bachelor's degree preferably in sports/entertainment management or business; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
At least 3-5 years experience in a managerial capacity in facility operations and event production with proven supervisory skills/experience
Solid accounting and finance skills, including knowledge of budget preparation and control
Proven leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor and motivate a diverse workforce
Excellent verbal, written and public relations skills, as well as ability to analyze data and make sound decisions
Ability to effectively interact with all levels of management, promoters, suppliers, guests and visitors
Experience in contract development and negotiations, including facility use agreements, licensing agreements, service agreements, sanction agreements, and sponsorship agreements
Ability to build strong working relationships with local fire and police departments and other government entities
Knowledge of, experience and compliance with Federal and State OSHA regulations
Knowledge of, experience and compliance with California environmental regulations (AQMD, DTSC, etc) including environmental impact reports
Knowledge of safety practices, including first aid and all applicable safety standards for public facilities
Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to delegate efficiently
Consistent demonstrated ability to be a proactive, forward thinker
Ability to anticipate problems and implement immediate corrective action
Ability to multi-task and problem solve in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work a demanding schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
Must be able to meet tight deadlines
Proficient with Microsoft Office Programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
