As the User Experience Design Senior Manager at Lands’ End, you will be a hands-on design expert, playing a vital role in shaping and executing the strategic vision for UI/UX, visual design, prototyping, and technical implementation across our B2C and B2B businesses. Operating within a "player-coach" model, you will not only provide visionary leadership but actively contribute to design tasks, working alongside your team to craft exceptional consumer experiences.


Our brand is positioned both in the direct-to-consumer business and third-party marketplaces, making this role integral in ensuring a seamless and inspiring journey for our customers across various touchpoints. Leading a dynamic team in a fast-paced environment, you will be responsible for crafting best-in-class consumer experiences, aligning with our brand refresh goals, and ensuring a premium online presence in any channels Lands’ End resides in. You will work closely with brand and digital marketing teams, digital merchandising, engineering, product management, and company leaders to successfully go from early-stage concepts to launch. In this role, you will manage and mentor design team members, fostering collaboration and enthusiasm for creating engaging user experiences that resonate across the organization.


The ideal candidate for this role is a hands-on manager who is adept at guiding design projects from conception to completion, ensuring they meet business requirements and exceed customer expectations. You should be willing to dive into design work alongside your team, demonstrating a commitment to delivering high-quality, user-centric solutions. The ability to be responsive, flexible, and thrive in an open and collaborative environment is crucial. Experience in recruiting and mentoring team members, along with a knack for managing a varied workload effectively, is important. A strong background in hands-on design work, coupled with the ability to manage a team and influence outcomes, will set the successful candidate apart.


Responsibilities



  • Hands-on Leadership: Actively engage in the design process, leveraging your expertise to contribute to UI/UX, visual design, and prototyping tasks. Lead by example, demonstrating best practices and setting a high standard for design excellence within the team.



  • Strategic Leadership: Lead the charge in reestablishing our brand as a premium offering, ensuring that every interaction reflects our commitment to quality and everyday solutions. Define and drive the strategic direction of UI/UX design, aligning with the overall brand refresh objectives. Provide hands-on leadership in translating business needs into compelling and customer-focused design solutions. Foster a customer-centric mindset within the design team and the broader organization.



  • Collaboration and Team Engagement: Collaborate seamlessly with cross functional partners and leaders to understand business goals and user needs, translating them into effective and innovative design solutions. Lead discussions from early-stage concepts to the successful launch of design concepts/customer journey to support launches, campaigns, promotional events, etc. Work closely with your team, engaging in collaborative design sessions to bring early-stage concepts to successful launch.



  • Site Experience Enhancement with Customer-Centric Design: Oversee the enhancement of the overall site experience, focusing on intuitive navigation, engaging content, and a visually appealing design. Drive improvements in user engagement and conversion rates by overseeing the creation of engaging and inspiring design solutions and implementing user-centered design principles. Utilize user research, usability testing, and feedback mechanisms to continually enhance the user experience.



  • Brand Elevation, Innovation and Trends: Uphold and enforce brand standards across all digital touchpoints, contributing to the reestablishment of our brand as a premium offering. Develop and implement design guidelines that reflect the brand's identity consistently and drive continuous improvement and innovation in the user experience to stay competitive in the retail landscape. Stay at the forefront of industry trends, emerging technologies, and design innovations to infuse the brand with cutting-edge design practices to differentiate our brand in the competitive retail landscape.



  • Leadership and Mentorship: Build and lead a high-performing user experience design team. Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to team members, fostering a culture of collaboration, creativity, and excellence.

Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, CX/UX or a related field.

  • Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in UI/UX or related field, with a track record of driving revenue growth and enhancing customer experiences, with a 2+ years as a manager of a design team. Extensive experience as a hands-on design leader, preferably in a senior UX/UI role within the retail industry.

  • Strong understanding of retail apparel industry trends, consumer behavior, and online shopping best practices.

  • Fluency in best practices for interaction design, user-centered design process, as well as strong knowledge of user experience principles and techniques

  • Experience working in a tight design cycle and collaborating with the agencies and/or marketing partners, product and engineering teams for design implementation. Demonstrated success in driving design strategy and leading teams while actively participating in the design process.

  • Exceptional portfolio showcasing impactful design solutions and successful project implementations.

  • Proven ability to work cross-team, synthesize feedback and input from business leaders, customer research/analytics and to design creative solutions.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to gracefully defend your team’s design decisions and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.

  • Excellent leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage and develop a high-performing team.

  • High-level understanding of latest versions of HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and Responsive Design

  • Experience designing products for global markets.

  • Experience with multiple platforms and form factors, including smartphone, tablet, multi-modal or industry-specific devices.

  • Scope design initiatives against high-level product roadmaps; allocate resources and prioritize work across multiple programs.
