Job Description

Position Summary

Wellesley College seeks an Assistant Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) who will lead the college's efforts to steward philanthropic relationships with national and local foundations and corporations, and build successful internal partnerships across the college to support CFR fundraising.

Reporting to the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, the Assistant Director will lead high-level stewardship to current donors through quality written reports and related communications; identify and evaluate potential new funding prospects; support faculty with drafting LOIs, concept papers, and other solicitation materials; and lead administrative work for the CFR office, including special projects such as website design. This is a mid-level development role which demands terrific writing skills, genuine curiosity about innovative academic work, and a talent for managing stewardship projects involving team members from across the college. It is a significant opportunity for career development within a top-performing Development Department and a successful and growing CFR team.

Position Responsibilities

Stewardship: The CFR Assistant Director will be responsible for leading the reporting and stewardship of institutional grants at Wellesley College. Working directly with faculty and center leads, they will revise and tailor written reporting for foundations, as well as develop templates and other materials to ensure that faculty have what they need to draft reports in time for external deadlines. They will also partner with the Donor Relations team on acknowledgements and other communication with existing donors. In terms of financial stewardship, this role will support the Provost's Office and the Finance Office in monitoring the spending and allocation of grant awards on a regular basis. The Assistant Director will be a resource if faculty need to request adjustments from a foundation toward their milestones or timeline, and assist major gifts teams in the development of proposals and stewardship reports for individual donors when appropriate (for example, for donors who give through a family foundation).

Prospect Research: The Assistant Director will use industry-standard resources, such as Foundation Center Directory, to research and identify funding opportunities and work closely with the Director of CFR to proactively manage the team's research/prospect pipeline. This includes working with the Development Prospect Research team to align CFR with their systems, and partnering with Sponsored Research to implement a calendar of opportunities for institutional grants that aligns with research grant announcements.

Faculty Support: The Assistant Director will play a key role as a liaison between faculty and the development office, providing timely responses to requests for support with identifying leads for potential funds, and, on occasion, working directly to guide LOIs and concept notes to be the best possible fit with funder interests.

Project Management and Administrative Support: The Assistant Director will serve as a lead administrator within the CFR office, including writing and formatting briefings for senior leadership, leading the overhaul of the CFR website to make it a better resource for faculty and foundations, and assisting with scheduling, securing signatures, and database files as needed.

This role sits within the Development Office and will be eligible for a hybrid work schedule.

Basic Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have 4-6 years of experience, preferably in a higher education or similarly complex institution.

Skills and Abilities

Excellent writing skills and attention to detail are required. Experience with grant development, leading interdisciplinary project teams, and/or CRM software would be helpful.
