Job Description Summary
The University of South Alabama’s Payroll department is seeking to hire a Payroll Specialist. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
Essential Functions These are the job duties required of the position.
Essential Functions
Calculates and remits wage garnishments, child support and tax levy deductions.
Calculates and enters deductions for health, life and vision insurance.
Uses Banner to enter personnel actions forms to include appointments, salary chances, labor changes, terminations, etc.
Reviews web time entry time sheets for exempt employees to ensure leave and time policies are followed.
Audits transactions in the Kronos timekeeping system to ensure work is performed accurately and timely and follows hospital and campus policies.
Provides back up and assistance for processing student classification personnel action forms.
Provides back up and assistance for processes all tax annuity forms for Healthcare Authority employees.
Provides backup and assistance for calculating pay outs for terminating and resigning campus employees.
Provides backup and assistance for processing monthly faculty personnel action forms during high volume times.
Provides backup on auditing, entering, and checking timesheets and applying personnel policies relating to time and attendance.
Researches stale dated checks for those that need to be reported to the state as unclaimed property.
Tracks and monitors leave taken for campus employees under the Family Medical Leave Act and Families First Coronavirus Response Act.
Communicates with employees by telephone and in person concerning wages, taxes and deductions and explains gross to net variances.
Prepares and analyzes reports in Microsoft Excel.
Covers other areas of responsibility during absences.
Ensures confidentiality of employee information.
Regular and prompt attendance.
Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required, which may include holidays.
Related duties as required.
