Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY: The Prep Food Cook Lead contributes to company's success by having a hands-on involvement in the day-to-day restaurant operations. The Cook Lead effectively leads a shift while ensuring restaurant operational excellence. The Cook Lead may be responsible for the opening or closing procedures of the restaurant in coordination with or in the absence of the Restaurant Manager. Must be able to work a variety of hours including nights, weekends and holidays.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned):


  • Effectively lead the restaurant during a shift to ensure that excellent restaurant operations are consistently achieved.

  • Lead each shift by delegating duties, assigning specific tasks and ensuring team members are prepared for each day.

  • Follow El Super operational policy and procedures, including those for cash handling and safety/security, to assist in ensuring the safety of all employee and customers during each shift.

  • Assist management in the training and development of employees.

  • Act with integrity, honesty and leadership that promotes El Super's values.

  • Assist in ensuring compliance with all labor laws, policies and procedures. Notify supervisor of any violations immediately via appropriate channels.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the restaurant and ensure proper set up and breakdown of the entire restaurant including dining room, restrooms, kitchen, and prep areas.

  • Assist management with ensuring daily, weekly, monthly logs are maintained

  • Manage time effectively while meeting all job responsibilities.

  • Assist in checking food quality and food temperatures throughout the day to maintain company and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point rules and regulations.

  • Cross train in all other positions and provide support to those work stations as needed.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.

  • Minimum 2-5 years cooking experience (preferred).

  • Must be at least 18 years or older.

  • Able to read, speak, and understand basic English (a plus)

  • Able to read and prepare from recipes

  • Able to work in a fast paced environment

  • Neat, clean, and professional appearance

  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule to include evenings, weekend shifts, and holidays.

  • Exhibit a sense of urgency

  • Able to work weekend and nights when needed

  • Ability to work well with others as a team as well as independently

  • Has high level of enthusiasm and self-motivation

  • Knowledge of proper rotation and food handling.

  • Ability to read register tickets, kitchen recipes/procedures, and communicate with other team members.

  • High School education, diploma (or in process) or GED, preferred.

  • Must be able to follow all safety, health and sanitation procedures.

While performing the duties of this job, the Cook is regularly required to stand and walk for long periods of time. The Cook must also have the ability to do the following: regularly lift /move/or carry up to 25 pounds; frequently lift/move/or carry up to 45 pounds and occasionally lift/move/or carry up to 65 pounds; work with restaurant equipment (stove, ovens, fryers, knives, pots and pans, etc.). Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, grasping, pinching, smelling, tasting, reaching/lifting above shoulders in a repetitive manner; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear; and work with cleaning solutions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
