Job Description:

Aspire is a growing nonprofit organization of the Massachusetts General Hospital. We offer a variety of high-quality therapeutic programs and services that focus on helping children with high cognitive autism spectrum disorders and related profiles develop increased self-awareness, social competency, and stress management skills.


The Assistant Group Leader is a seasonal position working at Aspire's Explorations Summer Program for teens aged 14-19. The Assistant Group Leader works closely with the Group Leader to support a group of approximately 6-8 teens and provide support during community outings and structured program activities as well as facilitate their participation with the group. Tasks of the role include: co-leading some program activities; implementing interventions, supports, and strategies for program participants; supporting the group leader and participants during program activities; maintaining accurate timekeeping and record keeping; and complying with program policies and procedures. The staff member will work onsite at the program location in Newton.


The Assistant Group Leader reports directly to an onsite Explorations Assistant Program Manager and Program Manager. The assistant group leader must be willing to work closely as part of a group and collaboratively with others. Prior experience working with adolescents on the autism spectrum is preferred, but not required. This is a 40 hour per week paid position for 6 program weeks that includes 40 hours of mandatory and paid training prior to the start of the program; along with mid-summer parent conferences. Pre-program and ongoing training and supervision is provided by experienced clinical staff.



Qualifications

• Enrolled in, or graduate of, an undergraduate program in: psychology, social work, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, and other mental health related fields.


  • Prior experience working with adolescents with autism spectrum disorders is preferred but not required.

• Strong interpersonal and team-building skills.


• Openness to receiving feedback on interactional skills with families, participants, and staff.


• Desire and ability to work in outdoor settings


• Basic computer skills. MS Word required; knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook helpful.


• Good basic writing skills.


• Ability to work independently and be flexible.


• Excellent organizational skills.


• Strong attention to detail.


• Problem-solving skills.
