RADIO-TELEVISION SERVICES (BL-RTVS-IUBLA)



Department Information



The Media Productions team within IU Radio and Television Services (BL-RTVS), also known as WFIU/WTIU, is seeking individuals desiring to work part-time as members of our production crew! The production crew usually consists of approximately 50 part-time individuals and is led directly by our Productions Manager and Crewing Coordinator (Production Leader) with ultimate oversight provided by our Director of Media Productions. The production crew assists in the broadcasting of Big 10 Athletic Events, IU Ceremonies, IU Leadership Addresses, etc.

Job Summary



Individuals starting in this position will shadow multiple positions, while also being exposed to/trained on the following within Level 1:


Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Operates Camera. Part-time production crew members will practice running studio cameras and following instructions from the Director.

  • Executes basic camera moves; pan, tilt, dolly and truck. Part-time production crew members will continue to train on the camera to learn more elaborate functions.

  • Competently operates teleprompter system.

  • Competently operates Fly Box.

  • Introduction to Handheld and/or Jib camera operation.

  • Introduction to Chyron and/or Vizrt graphics systems.

  • Introduction to multiple control room and field positions including stage manager, replay, audio and more.

  • Introduction to the Switcher and Technical Director position | Shown basic operation and signal flow.

  • Setups and breaks down of productions.

  • Begins training on all "Tier 1" crew assignments per progression plan in place with the department.

*Note - There are 4 levels of production crew and there are several other skills/assignments one will learn if progressing through these levels after becoming proficient in all Level 1 skills/assignments.

Working Conditions / Demands



Selected hires must be able to complete the essential functions of the job with or without an accommodation.


Travel to different venues may be required during shifts; however, the Director of Media Productions asks only full-time staff to drive RTVS fleet vehicles which will ensure that no part-time production crew member is responsible for driving and therefore, a valid driver's license is not required for this position.

Advertised Salary



Selected candidates for interview will be asked to provide scheduling availability and other information as determined relevant by the Director of Media Productions (Broadcast Operations Leader) and the Productions Manager and Crewing Coordinator (Production Leader).


Those candidates selected for hire will be offered $12.50 per hour to start, with the opportunity to progress in pay 2X per year (opportunities going into fiscal year start in July and mid-year in January)


Progression plan pay for this part-time position is currently:


Level 1: $12.50 per hour


Level 2: $14.00 per hour


Level 3: $15.50 per hour


Level 4: $17.00 per hour



Work Hours



Work shifts will be varied throughout the week.


Evening, weekend, and holiday work will likely be required given event schedule and client needs.


Part-time employees at Indiana University may not work over 29 hours per week across all University-held positions.
