Job Summary: The Part-Time Writer/Editor will play a crucial role in enhancing the communication and promotional materials of Jacobs School of Music. This position involves crafting engaging and informative content, both digital and print, editing various documents, and contributing to the overall branding and marketing efforts of the school.
Department-Specific Responsibilities:
Produces compelling and informative content including but not limited to print publications, digital stories, feature stories, newsletters, public-facing emails
Interviews with faculty, students, and alumni to gather stories and experiences that showcase the unique aspects of Jacobs.
Collaborates with faculty and staff to refine academic publications, promotional materials, and event announcements.
Occasional proofs of social media assets.
Works closely with the Communications team to align messaging and maintain consistency across all platforms.
Collaborates with graphic designers and other creative professionals to develop visually appealing and cohesive content.
Stays informed about current trends and developments in the music education industry.
Researches and compiles relevant information for articles, reports, and other written materials.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
Proven experience in writing and editing, preferably in an academic or performing arts-related setting
Familiarity with music terminology and an understanding of music education is a plus
SKILLS
Required
Excellent writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with content management systems
