Data Governance Intern Intern - Spring/Summer 2024


Primary Duties & Responsibilities

The Data Governance Intern will be responsible for assisting with data governance related activities including creating processes for data profiling and data risk analyses processes and deliverable creations. This includes working on frameworks and approach processes to support data governance findings, analyses, and risk reduction opportunities. The Data Governance intern will collaborate with information security risk management, threat management, incident response, security architecture, and privacy functions, as well as informational technologies teams. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the data governance function within the context of the insurance industry.



PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand and document data governance new and emerging processes
  • Create deliverable frameworks and templates to drive standardization inside of processes
  • Understand, document the mapping of core KPIs and dashboards to critical data elements
  • Understand and document what information and findings need to supply relevant information to other organizations such as Information Security, Privacy, Compliance, Legal and Information Technologies
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of data governance or information security.
  • An ability to work on several tasks simultaneously and apply information obtained from internal and/or external sources.
  • Excellent prioritization capabilities, with an aptitude for breaking down work into manageable parts, effectively assessing the priority and time required to complete each part.
  • Verbal and written communication of complex information that is accurate and timely.
  • Using a personal computer in a Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) environment, and accurately performing data entry.
  • Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers and external contacts.
  • Work effectively in a professional team environment.

Required Knowledge & Experience



EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED


Education
  • Currently enrolled in and actively attending an accredited college or university as an undergraduate student with a declared major in Information Assurance, Information Security, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or other relevant program and within 24 months of graduation.

Company contributes to HSA.


Short-Term Disability - Eligible employees may be entitled to salary continuance during periods of temporary disability. Benefits are based on employee status and years of service.*


Group Life and Long-Term Disability** - Eligible employees may elect life insurance and long-term disability coverage the first of the month following 30 days of continuous service.


Vacation and Paid Holidays - Employees are eligible for vacation upon the completion of six months of employment. In addition, the Company offers eight paid holidays.


Education Assistance - The Company supports employees who wish to continue their education to secure increased responsibility and growth within their professional careers. We offer a reimbursement program for expenses incurred through approved institutions of learning. In addition, Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) and International Claim Association (ICA) program courses are offered after the completion of six months of services at no cost to the employee.


Fitness Reimbursement - Eligible employees are able to receive up to 100% reimbursement for monthly dues (employee only).


Supplemental Plans** - Cancer, Heart/Stroke, Accident.
