Required:

Bachelor degree or relevant technical certification. Two years of experience with analytical laboratory methods, instrument operation, equipment maintenance, recordkeeping, instruction and research. Strong computer skills and must be competent, willing and able to work directly with students and faculty engaged in applied research.


Knowledge of the technical support functions for maintenance and use of analytical instruments and with procedures relevant to the use of the following types of equipment. The equipment process list is not inclusive and adaptability, willingness to learn, and problem solve with various types of lab equipment is a priority.* Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)* X-ray fluorescence (XRF)* X-ray diffraction (XRD)* Cation analysis* Anion analysis* Dry Combustion C/N Analysis* Microkjeldal Analysis* Genetic Analysis


Preferred:

Post graduate with course work or research work with scientific analytical laboratory methods. Three or more years with experience in a lab that supported graduate level research in scientific analytical laboratory methods.


Primary Responsibilities:


SummaryFunction: The successful applicant will serve as the Lab Equipment and Instrumentation Technician for the College of ALPS and with the focus being the increased retention of students through lab access, equipment training and lab equipment availability.Scope: Equipment in labs housed in the Warnock Science Building and Turner Range Animal Science Building and external lab sites that support research and academic programs.DutiesEssential: Primary responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: acquisition, maintenance, operation and recordkeeping for analytical lab equipment housed in four major lab spaces including the Geology Analytical Lab, Chemistry Analytical Lab, Genetics Lab, and Soils and Nutrition lab. Instrumentation include: SEM (JEOL), XRF, XRD, AAS, Dionex and C/N analytical instruments, and the incorporation of this technology (hardware and software) in SRSU labs and instructional settings. Responsibilities will include sample prep, instrument operation, acquiring training in methods and operation, instruction of others, record keeping and working with students and faculty on applied research projects, and administrative support of the Analytical labs on the SRSU campus (including but not limited to Warnock Science Building and the Turner Range Animal Science Building. The selected candidate will serve as the University's Radiation Control Officer. The successful candidate must be willing to travel and participate in training provided to facilitate achievement of project goals and objectives. The position will report to the Dean of the College of ALPS and the Title V Digital Transformation and Modernization in Far West Texas Grant during the funded grant period. Once the position is institutionalized reporting will be to the Dean of ALPS. Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times.



Working ConditionsUsual: Inside lab spaces that may be temperature controlled at temperatures ranging from 50-75°F. Standing for long periods of time at equipment and lab benches. Normally 8-5 with some weekends and travel. Position is Security Sensitive.


Other Information:

Texas Law requires a 60 day waiting period before new state employees are eligible to enroll in health insurance.
