Associate Director of Engineering - Exclusive Brands - Hybrid at Best Buy in Richfield, Minnesota

Job Description:

As the Associate Director of TV Engineering for Best Buy Exclusive Brands, you’ll lead a global engineering team responsible for product design and development as well as supplier quality. You’ll have 12-15 team members based in Minneapolis, Shenzhen and Taipei. You’ll report to the Senior Director of Global Engineering and Quality as a part of a matrixed organization. You’ll work in a collaborative environment with product and supplier development managers and external suppliers to create technical specifications for future lines of connected televisions, You’ll also work with internal cross-functional teams and external technology and manufacturing partners in the commercialization of connected television products.

This role is hybrid, which means you will work some days on site at a Best Buy location and some days from home or other non-Best Buy location. The specific work arrangements vary by role and team. The recruiter or hiring manager will provide more details during the hiring process.

What you’ll do

• Work closely with internal and external cross-functional teams in the development of technology roadmaps, product roadmaps and technical specifications


• Support the creation and evaluation of the technical product requirements during sourcing events with suppliers


• Ensure recommended technology selections meet competitive product features and are implemented in the most cost-efficient way


• Work closely with internal and external teams to maintain a supplier quality management system that meets product quality requirements


• Work with the engineering, safety and testing teams to review customer ratings and data to ensure continuous product and supplier improvements


• Develop and review standard processes used across the global engineering and quality teams to ensure they are in line with Best Buy Exclusive Brands strategy

• Bachelor’s degree or above in electrical, computer or software engineering or related technical discipline


• 10 or more years of experience in product development and system architecture of internet and video-based consumer electronics products


• 7 or more years of experience designing and shipping high-volume consumer products


• 5 or more years of experience managing multiple direct reports


• 1 or more years of experience managing other managers


• 3 or more years of experience with hardware/software architecture, SoC architecture, RTOS, Linux, Android and RF technologies such as WiFi and Bluetooth


• 2 years of analog and digital hardware experience applicable to high-volume consumer products


• Ability to travel 25% of the time, including 3-4 international trips per year

• 10 years of hands-on experience with display video processing, picture quality engineering, TV panel systems and LCD backlight modules


• 3 years of experience working with offshore manufacturing partners and working in geographically distributed teams


• Basic knowledge of video processing algorithms and techniques including HDR technologies, local dimming and MEMC
