Job Description:

The Director, Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Program is responsible for the overall coordination of the Bariatric Surgery programs at assigned facility(s). Participates in and manages program development, the accreditation process and ensures regulatory compliance for all assigned program(s). Maintains and creates relevant policies and procedures. Tracks outcomes, data collection, and quality improvement efforts. Provides staff education in various aspects of the metabolic and bariatric surgery patient with a focus on patient safety. Serves as a liaison between the facility and surgeons performing metabolic and bariatric surgery at the center(s) and general surgeons providing call coverage. Ensures an effective patient care delivery system that is compliant and consistent with standards of practice. Implements strategies, processes, and standards to ensure operations support the key organizational and departmental initiatives such as quality of care, patient safety, and patient satisfaction. Responsible for employee coaching, training, hiring, counseling/discipline, performance assessment and payroll processes.Foothill Regional Medical Center is a fully accredited acute care hospital, licensed for 177 beds-120 beds for general acute care, 15 intensive care beds and 42 pediatric sub-acute beds. Our pediatric sub-acute unit, just one of six in California, serves patients from throughout the state. We care for patients up to 21 years of age who need long-term sub-acute care including ventilator care and nutritional support.• Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing

• Five (5) years of nursing experience with 1 year in a leadership role in a hospital environment

• Two (2) years of nursing experience with Bariatric Surgery patients

• Strong time management skills and ability to effectively prioritize tasks

• Strong computer skills with Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel programs

• Ability to build and maintain strong relationship at all levels of the organizationCertification as a Bariatric Nurse• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing• AHA Basic Life SupportCertification as a Bariatric NurseActive, current, and unencumbered Licensure as a Registered NurseBARIATRIC AND METABOLIC PROGRAM:

Develops and manages the accreditation process for the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Program. Manages metabolic and bariatric program including committee meetings, staff education, and Pre and Post-operative patient education classes.
Works closely with the Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery.

CLINICAL PRACTICE KNOWLEDGE:

Ensures compliance with all applicable policies/procedures, laws, regulatory agency requirements, codes of practice, and organizational work standards (service, quality and safety standards). Effectively develops unit/department operational policies and procedures. Maintains records related to operations and services that are complete, accurate, available, and in compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements. Ensures Infection Control procedures and HIPAA compliance.

QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT:

Develops and maintains quality improvement activities and recommends / implements changes as appropriate. Assumes responsibility for quality assurance data and participates in the collection and evaluation of quality improvement data (including reporting). Monitors internal controls and seeks to resolve issues in a timely manner. Provides effective oversight and guidance of staff and operations to ensure quality patient care, including audits of activities and documentation. Develops Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery performance improvement project annually.

COLLABORATION/COORDINATION OF PATIENT CARE:

Collaborates with staff and members of the healthcare team, ensuring the coordination of care between other disciplines and support staff. Acts as a source of information and articulately responds to questions, providing resources, guidance and education about diagnoses and course of treatment for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeries. Ensures accurate teaching and safe discharge process.

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT:

Ensures appropriate and safe staffing levels. Oversees contract labor, including appropriate credentialing, orientation and evaluation. Effectively allocates and evaluates department work and provides leadership and follow through to ensure that patient care is delivered in a timely, efficient manner. Creates a safe work environment that fosters respect and positive morale. Responsible for hiring, firing, training, annual performance evaluations and competencies, and disciplinary process.BARIATRIC AND METABOLIC PROGRAM:
