Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

TranSystems provides transportation-engineering services across the country. Our Rail Project Managers are currently designing a number of exciting projects in the freight sectors throughout the nation. This candidate will work both independently and on project teams, with the opportunity to supervise staff level designers and manage projects. 

 

Primary Responsibilities (others may be included):


  • Prepare and/or review design calculations.

  • Research different design options, code requirements and present findings.

  • Prepare and/or review reports, design/contract drawings and specifications.

  • Prepare and/or review construction cost estimates.

  • Strong client relations.

  • Lead and mentor staff level engineers in the performance of project tasks.

  • Communicate with, and attend meetings with: clients, project team firms (subconsultants), and other project stakeholders.

  • Participate in business development activities including information gathering, preliminary design (for design-build pursuits) and proposal writing.

  • Responsible for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:


  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from a 4-yr accredited college or university.

  • At least 4 years industry experience or 2 years of dedicated railroad related design for E2, or 10 years/5 years for E3.

  • Experience working with freight railroads.

  • Candidates must possess strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment on multi-disciplinary projects.

  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.).

  • Experience with engineering design packages such as MicroStation V8i, Geopak SS2, OpenRoads and AutoCAD.

  • PE license in at least one state and ability to obtain licenses in additional states as projects may required.

  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

Work Environment:


  • The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, construction and field assignments can be severe (i.e. Airport noise, inside factories, construction equipment, jack hammers, etc).

  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and drive a car. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
