Position Purpose:

Plans, directs, and oversees chemical treatment activities for the VWNJ Hackensack and Franklin Lakes Systems. Oversees the chemical technicians to operate, maintain, and modify all chemical treatment equipment in compliance with applicable company policies/procedures, regulations, and laws ensuring the continuous supply of potable water.

Reporting to the Superintendent of Operations, the Chemical Treatment Supervisor is responsible for managing the daily chemical treatment activities. The individual supervises the work of the personnel under their immediate responsibility.

Subordinates:

  • Direct - 4 Chemical Treatment Technicians (Bargaining Unit)

Facilities:


  • 200 MGD Haworth Water Treatment Plant

  • 26 Pumping Stations

  • 16 Storage Tanks

  • 9 Production Wells

  • 12 Raw Water Wells and Diversions

  • 3 Dams on Hackensack River (Woodcliff Lake, Lake Tappan, Oradell Reservoir)

  • 2 Dams 50% owned with NJDWSC (Monksville, Dundee)

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:


  • To achieve the objectives set by the Superintendent of Operations.

  • Serves as a support to the Superintendent of Operations.

  • Coordinate the day-to-day activities of the chemical treatment department.

  • Work with planning to set schedules, meet compliance deadlines, and supervise all work performed in the chemical department.

  • Provide information to the Superintendent of Operations to update all KPIs of the chemical department.

  • Follow up with the chemical treatment staff on problems in order to make the necessary corrections.

  • Work in close collaboration with other Supervisors in the plant.

  • Participate in the Plant Management Team as an active member.

  • Ensure and maintain a good working climate within his team.

  • Ensure accountability of the personnel in terms of order and cleanliness to be respected in the plant.

  • Carry out and document audits of tasks, work permits and maintenance of the chemical equipment.

  • Ensure the application of health and safety rules, environmental protection, and the behavior of the personnel.

  • Trains new staff in the area, reinforcing safety and environmental principles.

  • Ability to be on call and available after hours.

  • Participate in the Emergency Response Team.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:


  • Minimum High School Diploma/GED equivalent

  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience in water treatment.

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

  • Experience maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting chemical equipment.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:


  • NJ State Water Treatment Plant Operator's License (T2) is necessary and/or ability to acquire within a reasonable amount of time.

  • NJ State Water Treatment Plant Operator's License (W2) is necessary and/or ability to acquire within a reasonable amount of time.

  • CDL Class B or ability to obtain in a reasonable amount of time.

  • Tanker and Hazmat Endorsements or ability to obtain in a reasonable amount of time.

  • OSHA HAZWOPER (24 Hour) Required - Provided by Company.

Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to work in hazardous environments.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.

  • Ability to don respirator (clean shaven).
