The Shriver Job Corps Center provides students with the opportunity to earn their High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED), and hands-on training in the following areas: Certified Nurse Assistant, Clinical Medical Assistant, Medical Administration Assistant, Patient Care Technician, Plumbing, Painting, Security and Protective Services, HVAC, Landscaping, Electrical, and Building Construction Technology.

Shriver Job Corps is looking for a highly compassionate and dedicated professional who is committed to supporting individuals on their journey to recovery. The job opening is for a TEAP (Substance Abuse) Counselor who will play a crucial role in providing guidance, support, and intervention to empower young people in overcoming substance abuse challenges.



As a counselor, you will be responsible for developing and facilitating the Center's program for the prevention of alcohol, drug, and tobacco abuse. You will provide education and counseling to students to reduce and prevent drug-related separations from the program. You will also develop personalized case management plans to enhance student retention and success. Your responsibilities will include ensuring the confidentiality of sensitive information and compliance with all HIPAA laws.



Responsibilities:


  • Individual and Group Counseling:

    • Conduct individual counseling sessions to assess and address the unique needs and challenges of students dealing with substance abuse issues.
    • Facilitate group counseling sessions, creating a safe and confidential space for open communication and peer support.

  • Assessment and Treatment Planning:

    • Conduct thorough assessments to understand the extent of substance abuse issues and develop personalized treatment plans.
    • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate substance abuse treatment into overall student care plans.

  • Education and Prevention:

    • Develop and implement educational programs and workshops on substance abuse prevention, harm reduction, and healthy coping mechanisms.
    • Provide information and resources to increase awareness about the impact of substance abuse on personal and academic success.

  • Crisis Intervention:

    • Respond promptly to crises related to substance abuse, providing immediate support and implementing crisis intervention strategies.
    • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure a coordinated and effective response to emergencies.

  • Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, and treatment plans.
    • Prepare and submit timely reports on student progress, ensuring compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements.

Qualifications




  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school preferred.
  • A minimum of one-year experience in drug/alcohol counseling or related field required.
  • Valid, active, unrestricted in-state License or Certification in Substance Abuse Counseling/Prevention required.
  • Regional approval required.
  • Certification or licensure as a Substance Abuse Counselor.
  • Experience working with individuals facing substance abuse challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with diverse individuals.
