Position Summary The Office of Research Integrity is seeking an Institutional Biosafety Administrator to coordinate and enhance research compliance processes in accordance with Rice's biosafety program. THey will provide information and support for Rice faculty, students, and staff to ensure compliance with state and federal research guidelines for recombinant and synthetic nucleic acids, biohazards, and other biological materials.
This position offers a flexible work schedule, with a minimum of 2 days in the office per week.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in a biological or related field
2 year of related experience
Skills Required
Significant working knowledge of biological research procedures and terminology
Understanding and familiarity with laboratory research methods and safety practices
Excellent computer skills and understanding of databases
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and in a team setting, with diverse individuals
Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
Ability to work on confidential and sensitive matters with tact and discretion
Preferences
Master's Degree or PhD in a scientific field related to IBC activities
Familiarity and experience with NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules
Professional biosafety credential, such as a Registered Biological Safety Professional (RBP) or Certified Biological Safety Professional (CBSP)
Familiarity and experience with preparing documents for review by a university compliance committee
Familiarity and experience with extramural funding for research
Essential Functions
Supports initiatives of the Office of Research Integrity
Serves as essential support staff in close partnership with the biosafety officer and Chair of the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)
Provides guidance and assistance to the campus community to interpret and apply research compliance regulations and requirements
Performs review of complex research protocols with some supervision
Coordinates with the Chair of the Institutional Biosafety Committee to support all functions of the Institutional Biosafety Committee, with primary responsibility for managing review documents, preparing meeting minutes, corresponding with committee members, and communicating on behalf of the Committee
Coordinates with Environmental Health and Safety and Lab Operations to ensure coherent guidance about related research practices
Assists with the development, implementation, and management of efficient policies and procedures to facilitate the processing of research compliance protocols in accordance with university and federal regulatory requirements
Manages the development and improvement of new protocol submission processes, electronic systems, and training modules
Assists with internal inquiries and audits of sensitive matters of research compliance and integrity
Assists with preparation and filing of reports to oversight agencies as appropriate
Performs all other duties as assigned
