Responsibilities
  • Manage outside counsel in the preparation, filing and prosecution of patent and trademark applications.
  • Work closely with research, development, and technical operations teams to advise and guide intellectual property development and strategy.
  • Conduct or direct freedom to operate and invalidity studies, analyses of third-party patents, and competitive patent intelligence.
  • Manage internal patent and trademark portfolios.
  • Provide transactional legal support for all intellectual property matters for the company globally.
  • Provide other general intellectual property legal advice and represent the company in matters relating to intellectual property law including licensing and litigation.

Qualifications & Education
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and an active registration, in good standing, with a state bar.
  • USPTO registered patent attorney.
  • Technical undergraduate degree, electrical engineering preferred but not required.
  • 3+ years broad intellectual property experience, with a preferred focus on patent preparation and prosecution.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas would be considered a plus: rendering patentability and non-infringement opinions; supporting due diligence activities; license/agreement drafting, negotiation and counseling; trademark prosecution.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English, emotional intelligence, and ability to counsel senior management.
  • Ability to work independently and across business functions and cultures with teams across multiple time zones.
