Responsibilities
Manage outside counsel in the preparation, filing and prosecution of patent and trademark applications.
Work closely with research, development, and technical operations teams to advise and guide intellectual property development and strategy.
Conduct or direct freedom to operate and invalidity studies, analyses of third-party patents, and competitive patent intelligence.
Manage internal patent and trademark portfolios.
Provide transactional legal support for all intellectual property matters for the company globally.
Provide other general intellectual property legal advice and represent the company in matters relating to intellectual property law including licensing and litigation.
Qualifications & Education
Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and an active registration, in good standing, with a state bar.
USPTO registered patent attorney.
Technical undergraduate degree, electrical engineering preferred but not required.
3+ years broad intellectual property experience, with a preferred focus on patent preparation and prosecution.
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be considered a plus: rendering patentability and non-infringement opinions; supporting due diligence activities; license/agreement drafting, negotiation and counseling; trademark prosecution.
Fluency in both written and spoken English, emotional intelligence, and ability to counsel senior management.
Ability to work independently and across business functions and cultures with teams across multiple time zones.
