About the Role:

The Director of Continuous Improvement and Industrial Engineering is responsible for improvement opportunities across the enterprise, as well as developing, documenting, and owning the utilization of lean manufacturing principles. The Director of Continuous Improvement & Industrial Engineering will be responsible for evaluating existing manufacturing processes and configuring manufacturing systems to reduce cost, improve productivity and develop best practices within the organization. The role will be responsible for evaluation of work measurement and workflow analysis for establishing labor standards for capacity planning optimization. They will also develop plant and equipment layout, capacity plans, and workflow and accident prevention measures to maintain efficient and safe utilization of plant facilities.

This position does have flexibility to work remotely, but will have significant travel to our Lafayette, IN locations and other Wabash locations.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Works across Wabash enterprise to support lean improvement efforts.
  • Implement, support, and facilitate Lean Manufacturing principles to improve operational efficiencies and eliminate waste.
  • Design flow of work to minimize waste and optimize throughput across the manufacturing facilities.
  • Apply Industrial Engineering tools to improve material flow, operations processes, workstation design, ergonomics, continuous improvements, etc.
  • Standardize assembly practices and cycle times.
  • Develop and maintain standard labor hours, cycle time, and move time data across operations.
  • Develop and document staffing standards for operations.
  • Develop short-range and long-range plans with internal customers to transform the value streams and remove waste.
  • Coordinate multiple continuous improvement projects concurrently in cooperation with internal customers.
  • Initiate and implement cost reduction projects.
  • Analyze and improve job safety through ergonomic risk identification and reduction.
  • Model labor standards based off demand complexity to optimize cost and productivity improvements.
  • Develop production flows and lay-outs.
  • Drive continuous improvement for efficient production.
  • Maintain up-to-date, state-of-the-art knowledge of Wabash Management System and Enterprise Lean techniques and shares information with other team members.
  • Support Wabash Management System (WMS) team to deliver training and ensure successful implementation of the Wabash Management process across the enterprise.
  • 30-40% travel to other Wabash locations.
  • Maintain budget and meets deadlines.

Let's Talk About Your Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Previous Experience: Automotive, Trucking Transportation and/or complex assembly line manufacturing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Desired: Six Sigma certification
  • Experience developing continuous improvement and industrial engineering strategy for an organization.
  • Experience constructing Value Stream Maps (current and future states), identifying improvements and leading cross-functional teams in developing line improvements.
  • Experience leading a continuous improvement team and industrial engineers as direct reports.
  • Must be detail-oriented and self-motivated with superior time management ability.
  • Ability to take direction from several sources, prioritize accordingly and work under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to motivate and coach teams to drive results.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interface with all levels within the organization, as well as external vendors.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a strong ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining accuracy.
  • Capacity to perform in a constantly changing high pressure environment.
