The Director, Global Sales Training Development for AST and GST is responsible for creating strategic plans to advance sales force effectiveness by developing and deploying commercial training in-line with strategic imperatives for the AST and GST commercial organizations supporting ~$4B in worldwide revenue.

This role will have direct accountability for creating world-wide sales training solutions for the AST and GST business units as well as indirect accountability for alignment to training solutions for the DT and RST BUs, in both Operating-led and Region-led markets.

The Director will align on routine benchmarks for commercial capabilities across regions that identify significant training development best practice and gaps, to then focus on accelerating development of both clinical and non-clinical skills. The Director will then direct the design, deployment and analysis of standardized global sales and therapy training assets and programs to build future targeted capabilities and commercial skills for the AST and GST businesses that will deliver revenue growth and market share, in partnership with the Senior Director to align on One Surgical initiatives. These assets and programs will be delivered to regional training and marketing teams across businesses though Communities of Practice in all OU geographies and targeted regions, inclusive but not limited to New Hire Training, New Product Launches, procedural trainings, recertifications, and advanced selling programs.

T his role is also responsible for launching innovations in global learning - such as new learning strategies, platforms, applications, and technologies such as mobile learning platforms (Allego), virtual reality, Digital Surgery Enterprise (Touch Surgery), simulation technology, as well as other training delivery mechanisms. The Director is responsible for partnering with and advising key stakeholders within the AST and GST teams, including global and regional sales and marketing. This role will also align with functional partners; R&D, MedEd, and Surgical Commercial Marketing.

Day in the Life


  • Create optimal clinical sales training for the AST and GST commercial organizations to increase sales force productivity through world-class learning experiences following the Global Sales Training Model of Assess, Design, Deploy, Deliver, and Measure, enabling revenue gains for the AST & GST businesses
  • Maintain communication with customers (regional training & sales) to ensure effectiveness of training
  • Ensure all training content is current and properly reflects selling philosophy and models, and is approved through PromoMats channels, with regular review
  • Deploy training assessments for developed and developing markets including gap analyses, data interpretation and recommend implementation strategies, focused on ~80% global standardization, ~20% localized channel customization, supporting in-country sales training teams to build robust commercial solutions
  • Leverage tools and processes to analyze complex and undefined problems, and then design, develop and deliver appropriate solutions across both OU and region-led markets
  • Drive sales training communities of practice for AST and GST with all regional training teams across the globe to address priority training initiatives to infuse regional growth, e.g., New Hire Training, Recertification, Advanced Seller Training
  • Demonstrate thought leadership by partnering with marketing, clinical, MedEd and R&D teams across AST and GST, and other critical functional leaders
  • Demonstrate organizational agility across functions and businesses to ensure alignment and continuity, working through operational issues and divergent objectives
  • Drive accountability and performance for direct reports
  • Provide leadership to team to ensure the prioritization of strategic and department level initiatives, to define performance goals and targets, conduct performance reviews and 1:1s to guide performance management and employee development efforts toward departmental goals
  • Accountability for mentoring, developing, and coaching team on meeting/exceeding performance expectations by defined clear objectives
  • Drive achievement for Surgical business goals and organization health scores
  • Organize, develop, and manage talent for the organization that including hiring, promotion, performance management, and rewards

Must Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience (to include professional training and project leadership) with 7+ years of relevant industry and/or managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of managerial experience

The provided base salary range is used nationally in the United States (except in Puerto Rico and certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
