A Day in the Life

This position will be based out of Medtronic's campus in Lafayette, CO and reports to the Senior Director of General Surgical Technology RPE. The Senior Engineering Manager of RPE will manage all RPE efforts for the Electrosurgery portfolio and collaborate with cross-functional partners to ensure maintenance of design intent and deliver successful design changes for existing products.

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills are critical to success in this role, as is the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. You will work closely with mechanical, electrical and materials engineering teams to assess, plan and execute programs that enhance our electrosurgery products. Management and collaboration skills are essential in ensuring the team's successful interaction with project management, manufacturing, marketing and quality groups to meet timelines and business needs. This person will have deep technical knowledge but also understand and align the broader needs of the business.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

• Direct management and responsibility for the Electrosurgery RPE team including alignment of team goals to business imperatives, supervising high-performing engineers, developing engaged and inclusive talent, and communicating team activities and results to leadership.

• Plan, direct and implement all aspects of the company's design and development of medical device products or software systems.

• May develop, evaluate, implement and maintain technical quality assurance and control systems or reliability systems and standards pertaining to materials, techniques, or company products.

• Oversees the investigation and evaluation of existing technologies.

• Guides the conceptualization of new methodologies, materials, machines, processes or products.

• Directs the development of new concepts from initial design to market release.

• Manages feasibility studies of the design to determine if capable of functioning as intended.

• Monitors documentation maintenance throughout all phases of research and development.

• Organizes the coordination of activities with outside suppliers and consultants to ensure timely delivery.

• Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

• Bachelors degree required
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of project management tools

• Strong leadership skills

• Knowledge of medical device manufacturing documentation for product release

• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

• Comfortable working in a fast paced, cross disciplinary environment

• Ability to discuss technical details with engineering staff, the ideal candidate will have a strong engineering and product development background.

• Able to work with minimal direction towards completing project tasks

• Takes initiative in keeping current with technology developments in specialized area.

• Working knowledge of applicable FDA and ISO standards.

• Thorough understanding of engineering practices, product safety and root cause analysis.

• Working knowledge of Design for Reliability and Manufacturability, Design for Six Sigma, Failure Mode Effects Analysis, Statistical Analysis methods, and Design of Experiments.

• Effective in written and oral communication; experienced in report writing and development of presentations.

• Good understanding of structured product development (requirements-driven engineering, documentation, rigorous verification, etc.) Engineering verification test development and execution

• Understanding and experience with system reliability testing and service.
