Position Summary

The Senior Development Manager, Institutional Giving, will play an important role in managing Audubon’s institutional giving program across the hemisphere. This position will report to the National Audubon Society’s Vice President, Institutional Giving and will work closely with the VP, Corporate, Foundation & Strategic Partnerships, staff across the development team, and other departments, including finance and field offices. There is a preference for the candidate to be based near an Audubon regional office (ex: NY, DC, Chicago, San Francisco) but for the right individual, we will consider alternative locations.


Compensation:


  • $95,000-$110,000/year = National
  • $105,000-$120,000/year = Alaska, CA (not San Francisco), Connecticut, D.C., Chicago, Oyster Bay, NY
  • $115,000-$130,000/year = NYC (not Oyster Bay), San Francisco, Seattle

  • Essential Functions
  • Working in partnership with the VP Corporate, Foundation & Strategic Partnerships, VP, Institutional Giving, and the institutional giving team, strategically support the cultivation and elevation of relationships with donors capable of making six-, seven-, and eight-figure investments in Audubon.
  • Collaboratively, develop initial strategy recommendations and concept papers; prepare donor/prospect meeting briefings, event briefings, and follow-up materials; help draft proposals and reports for solicitation and stewardship purposes; and other related correspondence as assigned.
  • Oversee timely acknowledgment of gifts (both formally and informally); execution of grant contracts in coordination with finance, c-suite, and other staff; and timely Salesforce updates.
  • Track development team progress towards annual goals and metrics, analyze activity/data, and report on progress to VP, Corporate, Foundation & Strategic Partnerships and VP, Institutional Giving —preparing regular (weekly, monthly, and quarterly) reports and distributing to staff as a management tool.
  • Attend regular meetings focused on reporting fundraising progress, working cross-functionally to ensure fundraiser activity and moves management updates are accurately captured, documenting outcomes and next steps, and supporting follow-up with program staff and fundraising team members.
  • Lead meetings with field-based development associates, ensuring work product is high quality, best practices are shared, and coordination across teams is carried out to ensure experiences working with the development team are consistent and first-rate.
  • As needed, provide design support to field-based fundraisers for proposals, and coordinate Art Department review for all materials produced by field-based team to ensure branding alignment.
  • Ensure coordination on behalf of VP, Corporate, Foundation & Strategic Partnerships and VP, Institutional Giving, working collaboratively with development and Executive Team colleagues to determine attendance and role of VP at various meetings (ex: Board of Trustees committee meetings, CEO and CCO strategy meetings, etc.); assist in the preparation of materials for meetings when required.
  • Manage information requests from development colleagues and others, helping to manage VP, Corporate, Foundation & Strategic Partnerships and VP, Institutional Giving involvement and prioritization of time. Attend meetings on behalf of VPs as requested and report back on outcomes and next steps.
  • Manage fiscal year budgeting process in partnership with VP.
  • Act as a Salesforce “Super User” resource for the team, ensuring proper compliance with organizational rules and best practices, recommending trainings and guidance from Development Services for staff who are not in compliance. Coordinate and organize accurate donor and prospect data collection and management in Salesforce.
  • Supervise, develop, and mentor Development Associate and assist in coaching other members of the team.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required as well as at least seven years of progressive fundraising experience and a track record of securing five figure gifts. An equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered.
  • Experience working at large national and/or international NGOs is desirable.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • The position requires high levels of professionalism, collegiality, self-motivation, organization, and familiarity with the goals and objectives of Audubon.
  • Excellent relationships management, communication, writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • A proven track record of achieving both quantitative and qualitative goals.
  • Ability to collaborate and partner effectively throughout the organization.
  • Strong management skills and proven ability to work effectively within a team and influence people who do not report to you.
  • Previous experience managing staff preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, while exercising discretion and personal judgment where appropriate.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and development database programs required (Salesforce experience preferred).
  • Ability to travel throughout the network up to 20% of the time.
