Medtronic Neuromodulation and Pelvic Health, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is currently looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer for Released Product Engineer Instruments. This position will a hybrid role with the expectation of being onsite in Rice Creek, Minnesota three days a week.

A Day in the Life

As Released Product Instruments Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for mechanical design on released products and projects.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:


  • Develop and evaluate mechanical designs which meet defined product requirements and internal and external customer requirements and that are optimized for producibility, reliability, and overall cost to the business.
  • Document and support decisions using engineering analysis and data.
  • Verify the functionality of product design by developing design test methodology and specifications to ensure product designs meet applicable performance requirements.
  • Adhere to the applicable medical device FDA requirements for design and manufacturing, including medical device materials, related processes, and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).
  • Interface with suppliers, manufacturing facilities and various internal groups to resolve design and manufacturability issues for existing products.
  • Communicate your project tasks and deliverables and manage time to meet project deadlines.
  • Lead troubleshooting, problem-solving efforts, and documentation for existing issues with released products. Support decisions through thorough engineering analysis and data.
  • Perform day-to-day job responsibilities in a U.S. and internationally regulated work environment.
  • Consult and mentor colleagues and/or direct work of other lower-level professionals.

Must Haves - Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in a technical discipline required
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience.

Nice to Have


  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Mechanical design experience in a regulated medical industry
  • Medical device engineering experience
  • Knowledge and experience using DFMEA, DOE.
  • Knowledge and experience with statistical analysis (Minitab)
  • Experience using CAD systems
  • MS Project experience
  • Experience with process validation, CAPA (Corrective Action/Preventive Action), QMS (Quality Management System), and FDA 21 CFR Part 820
  • Plastic part design, engineering, and testing experience
