POSITION SUMMARY

The Facilities Grounds Crew position is responsible for the overall grounds maintenance by performing routine landscaping tasks using motorized equipment, power equipment and hand tools to mow, edge, trim, plant, and water as well as provide event support, snow and ice removal, trash removal, and the support of the overall purpose of Holland Hall. A high school diploma or equivalent, Oklahoma Certified Pest Applicator License or Service Tech License preferred.

JOB DUTIES

Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, the employee in this position will perform routine grounds maintenance functions to include but not limited to the following:


  • Maintains campus turf by irrigating, mowing, edging, trimming, fertilizing and weed control


  • Performs routine mowing, edging, turf maintenance, trash, and debris


  • Maintains trees and shrubs maintenance as well as leaf removal


  • Maintains athletic fields in conjunction with game schedules and event support


  • Removes snow, ice, trash and debris


  • Supervises and operates motorized lawn and turf equipment


  • Prepares flower beds for annuals and bulbs


  • Maintains playground equipment


  • Applies herbicides and insecticides as needed


  • Maintains surface drainage ways


  • Moves furniture and equipment for events as needed


  • Performs other duties as required to fulfill the overall purpose of Holland Hall

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


  • High School Diploma or Equivalent with one year of previous experience in landscaping and grounds maintenance preferred


  • Oklahoma Certified Pest Applicator License preferred or minimum of a Service Tech License

EXPECTATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE

The employee is required to perform each job successfully and must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:


  • Good working knowledge of the care of flowers, shrubs, trees, and their care


  • Ability to deal with people and perform under stress and when confronted with an emergency situation


  • Ability to use the computer to correspond through email and access the work order system


  • Ability to handle several projects at the same time and to work with various school and volunteer organizations


  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos


  • Ability to write simple correspondence


  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization


  • Maintain valid driver’s license


  • Have a Class B commercial driver’s license or ability to attain one within ninety days of employment


  • Ability to meet facility insurance requirements for school vehicle operators


  • Regular attendance is required for successful completion of job duties

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Workday regularly includes multiple or conflicting demands, deadlines and time pressures. Must be willing to work different shifts as needed.


  • Ability to lift 50-80 pounds when necessary.


  • Work requires considerable physical effort and manual dexterity in both hot and cold temperatures for extended periods of time.


  • Able to work in inclement weather if necessary.


  • Good close, distance, and color vision and depth perception.


  • Other activities include walking, standing, bending, kneeling, lifting, talking, hearing and visual acuity.
