Job Description



The Project Accountant will be responsible for tracking, accumulating, and properly accounting for the Company's capital projects in accordance with the Company's capitalization policy and GAAP. The Project Accountant will ensure proper approval is obtained for each project and will maintain all supporting documentation for the projects. The Project Accountant will assist with capital budgets, forecasts, and physical inventories of assets. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented and have a solid understanding of accounting for projects in accordance with GAAP.



Responsibilities





  • Issue and process Capital Project Requests; document on Master Project List; ensure company procedures are being followed with respect to proper approval for capital projects.

  • Analyze all expenditures posted to capital projects in the G/L for proper capitalization, obtain the supporting documents, and record all capital project transactions on Cost Summary Worksheets for each project.

  • Create the project file that will become the support for the fixed asset when the project is complete and put into service.

  • Review G/L coding on Purchase Orders to ensure proper coding for fixed assets and capital projects.

  • Prepare monthly journal entry for assets transferred between locations and also to reclass completed capital projects into fixed assets.

  • Prepare monthly journal entries to reconcile capital projects to the G/L.

  • Allocate interest expense to capital projects.

  • Work with department leaders to track % of completion for capital projects.

  • Assist Manager with the annual capital budget and related depreciation expense and also the reforecasting of the capital plan and related depreciation expense.

  • Participate in periodic fixed asset physical inventories to verify existence of the Company's fixed assets.

  • Assist with issuing asset tags to be placed on fixed assets for proper tracking.

  • Assist with year-end audit - providing reports, pulling support and providing reconciliations when requested.

  • Periodic and Ad Hoc report preparation.

  • Assist with special projects and other inquiries as needed.






Qualifications



• BS in accounting or equivalent experience.
• 3-5 years of experience with fixed asset accounting and capital projects / construction in progress preferred.
• Experience with BNA fixed asset software or other stand-alone asset software programs, a plus.
• Computer literate, including familiarity with a nationally known ERP system and the Microsoft Office suite of software. Experience with Oracle R-12 or Oracle Cloud, a plus.
