Job Description:

The Junior Category Manager is responsible for managing an assigned group of products and/or services. The role involves vendor management, pricing, merchandising, and marketing with the goal of optimizing sales and meeting revenue and gross profit budgets. They will work closely with a more seasoned Category Manager who will mentor them.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Category Strategy
  • Research and analyze internal and external data and market insights.
  • Search for insights into consumer needs and wants.
  • Plan and implement long-term development strategies for product categories.
  • Ensure product availability.
  • Assortment Planning
  • Source new and innovative products.
  • Maintain schematics for each assigned category to maximize sales and profit.
  • Design exit strategies for unsuccessful products.
  • Promotions and Pricing
  • Assist in developing and executing promotional strategies to drive sales and meet revenue and gross profit targets.
  • Conduct competitive checks to ensure market alignment.
  • Data Analysis
  • Utilize data analytics tools to extract insights and make data-driven decisions.
  • Trace and report on key performance indicators related to category management.
  • Vendor Management
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with vendors.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with the Operations Team by visiting sites regularly and getting feedback.
  • Compliance and Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations and industry standards.
  • Monitor and manage risks associated with the category, taking proactive measures to mitigate potential issues.
  • Any other projects assigned by the Director of Marketing.
  • In-depth Excel knowledge - experience working with large data sets and ability to slice and dice
  • Presentation skills -ability to articulate in a persuasive and effective manner
  • Communication and interpersonal skills - ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Management skills - includes the ability to manage time effectively and be focused on setting and executing objectives and priorities
  • Attention to detail - commitment to excellence and high standards
